    Ray:

In my view the Mercury set holders are all snakes, all causing me to spend money to add to my set! Of course, my characterization probably won't have a serious effect on Dennis (Python1)...

Now, more seriously, I agree wholeheartedly that the more participants the better. I hope Jim joins us. In fact, I wish Stephen Stokely would participate as he adds yet another(!) coin to his set on his way to challenge the Apollo Collection.

  • Mark,
    LMAO...
I agree, I wish Stokley would join us! In fact I am thinking about emailing him, to see if he would join us in the room, he might tell me to get lost......lol.

I have emailed Stokley a number of times, he has always responded, a very nice person. He would be a very nice addition to the board. Set #14 is a nice set and could rise through the ranks very easily.

I just took another dive and am now down to number 22. Its no big deal, but I have been adding fairly regularly in the past couple of months from ground zero and am still bailing. The three additions I have due in this week MIGHT get me back to number 19. This is a great set to collect!

I may be in 22nd place, but I am still first in the No Bands category. LOL, you have to have a sense of humor here.

    Hi guys,

The new Mercury set is mine. I've had some of them for 10-15 years, and hadn't been actively pursuing a complete set.....until now. image It started as a year set, and I've picked up a few others over the years, which explains why some of the really common dates are missing. There are also a few dates that I have in NGC holders. I figure I can add about another 15 coins to the set before they start getting expensive, not to mention just plain hard to find. I bought my first BU Merc's in 1967 for 90 cents apiece (1941-45), and still have them; I'll need to check to see exactly which dates I have raw next time I get to the safe deposit box. I was never a fanatic about FSB's, but I guess I'll have to be more selective if I'm going to be competitive with this group.

I have a lot of other collecting interests, and will be working on a type set at the same time as the Merc's, plus anything else in other series that catches my eye. I recently completed the Washington set, just before they added the varieties; I still need the 34 DDO and 50-S/D.

I checked out many of the other sets before adding mine. There are some really nice ones out there, and I'm looking forward to getting to know the other Merc collectors.

Hi Jim: My last post pertained to the "New All Time Finest Set" but actually went to the Registry to look at your Set. He is the Rule Guy and Levies Stiff Fines if the Rules are Broken.image Mercs Rule Here for Sure: Ken

Yeah, right--I might levy stiff fines for adding coins, but I've yet to see one thin dime(!) of any fine money!!

    Ken and Mark,

If Mark will PM me with the rules, I'll try to abide by them.image You'll have to excuse me, though, if I forget. Do you levy the fines in Merc dimes?

I doubt that I'll be a serious contender for the top spots, as even MS64FB of many dates are out of my reach unless I win the lottery. Getting the mintmarked coins from 1916-1928 in MS64 without split bands is more likely, and that will take years. The registry is a good way to remain focused on a set, and I'm hoping to make good progress on it this year.

    Thanks again for the welcome.

  • Talk about holding back. Then jump to the front with #1 set! Must be nice to have so much money you dont know what to do with it image
  • Welcome to the fray, Jim.
Your interests sound alot like mine - "anything else in other series that catches my eye".
Still working on my Washingtons and Standing Libs., though I doubt they'll ever be complete. image

Don't worry 'bout Mark's rules. They're like PCGS's,...always changin'! image
