What is the best way to cut insert cards?

I have a number of cards that are magazine inserts. In their original insert ofrm, they make terrible things to store or display. I am interested in cutting them out, but I don't know the best way. How much does it matter anyway? I have experimented using sissors and a scrapbooking straight-cutter. The straight-cutter seems to make straighter cuts, but it is hard to get it is harder to get it at the right angle. Sissors make it easier to get the right angle cut, but aren't always perfectly straight. Also, the scrapbooking straight-cutter I used made a slight ridge on the cards as the blade pushes down slightly when cutting.

I have seen cards that seem to be cut like a card factory would. A good example is cards I have gotten of 1984 Nestle, which supposedly were only available as uncut sheets. The Nestle cards I have seem to be perfect cuts! Any tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

  • I use a razor knife and a metal ruler with the cork back. i flip it over so that the cork is facing up. It allows me to get an even border all the way around. Don't start and stop, you'll get bad results. I've done this on hostess panels and other various handcut cards with good results. Oh, use a new blade.
