1994 Aussie 50 cents question

My Krause lists the business strike of this coin (KM# 257 International Year of the Family) as a 0.925 Silver composition.

Is that an error? Was this specific coin also struck in Cu-Ni? What does the most recent Krause has its composition listed as? Thanks a lot!

In looking at the 2007 World Coins book, I only find the 1994 Copper-Nickel. It has the listing for the circulated coins and the Proof strikes. The 1991 is listed as .9250 Silver. Also the 1998 Proof, 1999 Proof, and so on are listed as Silver but the 1994 shows Copper Nickel for the proof in my book. Hope this helps!

  • Hmmm...so, my 2005 Krause has it wrong then!! Thanks.
  • The 2006 lists it at copper-nickel too.

  • The business strike certainly is copper nickel, but there might be a "Masterpieces in silver" issue in silver. I'll take a look in my Australian coin catalog when I get home.

  • Just checked my Australian McDonald catalog: there is no silver strike of the 1994 YoF coin, not even in the "Masterpieces in Silver" series.
