Canadian Nickel coins

Has the pure nickel coins of Canada become worth more than face US? If so is anyone anywhere actually paying a premium for it? I may be going to Canada next week and have over $60 face of the stuff from 1968 to the late 1980's all denominations from $1 to nickels. Can it be exchanged easly? Any advice on getting rid of this?

The pre-1982 nickels have 11.8c worth of nickel in them. But, I believe it is illegal in Canada to melt 5c pieces for the metal.

US$ and C$ are pretty close to par

not enough nickel in coins except the pre-83 5 cent for premium

illegal in Canada to melt coins, but surely being done in other countries
