Lincoln cents modern proof registry set

Someone on this board, awhile back, said that the Lincoln modern proof registry set was going to be changed (I presume as part of this overhaul including weightings) to start with the three SMS coins (65-67), and move the 50-64 coins to another set.

Is there any truth to this?

  • I've made my suggestions for the change in this set. I too, will be patiently waiting to see what happens. I don't mind the 50's being in this set, but penalizing you for not having an SMS DCAM, when none exist, isn't proper. If they break the set, the same problem exists with 1951 (and I don't believe they would give any 1951 a DCAM even if an awesome specimen was submitted).

  • I think I posted a thread recently questioning the how the sets were set up. I would think atleast the wheats would be togethr and the memorials would be a discrete set. Merz2 has more information on this and I believe the wheat cents will be grouped together. I'm not sure about the SMS years, although I would think that they would stay with the rest of the 1959 to date proofs. Currently I'm #2 and I've been waiting to see what happens before investing in the 1950 wheats. Currently none of my wheats are CAM or DCAM. I want to see what PCGS does before I commit dollars to upgrade.

David: Best I know, there is already a super high grade DCAM 1951 cent in PCGS. Wondercoin

  • I forgot about that lonesome 1951 DCAM, Wondercoin, thanks.

I've found my temporary solution in any case. I'll update the modern portion of my registry set and keep submitting 1970 and newer to PCGS.

NGC gets all my older Lincoln proofs. Like merz, PCGS spurned my last two Lincoln proof submissions, but NGC loves em. 1951-1955 reds crossed as CAM or better and all but one got a grade bump too. The Lincolns are now very happy!

I wonder if PCGS would cross them as CAM's and DCAM's now that they are in NGC holders. Thoughts anyone?

I posted before on this subject.I was told by BJ,the 1950-1958 Proof Lincolns will be added to the 1909-1942 Proof Lincolns. So the 1959-present will be a seperate set.As far as the SMS coins I have no knowledge.
