Just curious about two things, 1) How many Brave's fans there is on this board? and 2) Who is your favorite Atlanta Brave player? Mine happens to be Dale Murphy

  • The Braves are my fav NL team, I'm an Orioles fan overall. image

My favourite all-time Brave was Gene Garber. It's too bad that the 1982-83 teams were the only Atlanta team he ever played for that were fairly decent. Glenn Hubbard was always a scrappy player, too.

  • If my memory is correct, I believe that Glenn Hubbard used to have one of the smallest fielding gloves in the majors. Can anyone back me up on this?

Not a Braves fan, but Dale Murphy was my favorite player when I was growing up.

Current favorite Brave - Anthony Lerew.

This kid was a 1st round pick of the braves, he ended up playing linebacker at Duke when he didn't make the majors. He's my favorite because I remember his dad (my english teacher) coming in to school and talking about his son jimmy. He was 2 years old and if he got dad talking we could usually get out of doing any actual learning.

Actual Braves players? Nothing beats April 8 1974. Hammerin Hank!

    Rowland Office.

I seemed to always get his cards in the 70s.

    Hammerin' Hank!!! image

2 & 3 would be Phil Niekro and Dale Murphy.

Edited to add that I am in no way whatsoever a Braves fan, in fact, I can not stand them. The above three however, transcended team affiliations and opposing fan hatred.

I grew up outside of Richmond, VA and spent plenty of time at old Parker Field and then The Diamond. I'm not nearly as much of a Braves fan as I was back then but I still follow them and would have to say that Smoltz is my favorite of this bunch of Braves.

My favorite Brave ever was Ron Gant.

Currently, it's between Smoltz and Glavine.

Henry was before my time, but I venerate him as a Brave and as a man.

I've been a fan since '79, and there are only a handful of ex-Braves who I'm not okay with.

Basically anyone on the early 90s teams. Later I really like Javy Lopez, Chipper, Andruw...so on so forth.

Maddux is a favorite too, but he's a royal tool to the fans.

    4) Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux
    5) Yunel Escobar

Tough to decide. Francouer would have to be up there as well. Escobar's story is a great one. Crashed on a raft, landed on the US shore, so he was allowed to stay. Now he's a starting SS.
