Is the 2000-W Library of Congress 10$ Plat & Gold PCGS MS69 is maxed out price wise?

Issue price in 2000 was $405. Greysheet bid is $2,600. It has a low mintage of 6,683.

I bought these for the long term, but with high prices like this has me wondering if I should sell now.

Is eric96 or any other modern guys in the house?

If the proof issue were anything near 2.6K, I'd sell in a nano second!

The sad part is the proofs costs more than the uncs at issue price Bubblehead.

Thanks. There were no order limits on these from the US mint. I bought a few of these in Decemeber 2000 11:30 PM eastern standard time AKA at the last friggin minute. Back when the US mint was much easier to work with.

I remember receiving a brochure from the Mint with the picture of this LoC coin but I wasn't interested in the coin at the time.

I would hang on to these. I also didn't like the design when it came out, but have since come to regard it as a really beautiful coin. With the low mintage, I think it's a long-term hold--and always fun to look at.

  • What was the max mintage on these? 10,000? I remember seeing these for the first time probably abbout 3 years ago and thought they were ugly, but I like them now. It's hard to believe these sold for $400 back in 00', funny how things work.

I would imagine the intrinsic value of the precious metals is eating up the numismatic worth at the moment.

With only 1/4 ounce of gold and 1/4 ounce of platinumin the coin.....we are a long ways from that happening Coinhusker.

I simply meant that the pm worth has increased while the numismatic value has not. image

    1/4 oz gold = approx $450+
    1/4 OZ plat= approx $400+

Bid on the coin is $2,600 and back two years ago 2006 bid was $2,900. So the metals bull market has NOTHING to to with the price of this bid coin.
  • I was actually thinking of parting with mine, these coins have not seemed to have moved up in qite a while.

I purchased 2 uncs. from the mint back then. I sold one for $2400.00 and still have the last one. image

I've really felt that the Unc $10 LOCs have been overpriced for a while, as are the Unc Jackie Robinsons... I remember in Milwaukee a dealer was offered an Unc Jackie and he walked over to a well known modern dealer, and he offered 20% under sheet, because it was so overpriced, and hard to sell retail...

As long as the collector market keeps growing the demand for these will too. They might stabilize but I think they are far from maxed out.

They've maxed and have begun to move down. It used to be my favorite coin until I sold it for an obscene profit.

If it is indeed moving down you can make it your favorite coin again. image

I would sell. I believe there will be a slow down on commem. collecting for a while. JMO though.

Long run, good coins in that they are fairly scarce by modern standards, and I think the Jackie had very good dispersion despite rumors to the contrary. Price dependent it is problematic to determine their values. I think there may be a slowdown (ie drop) in the prices of these coins but that they may ultimately be some rather good coins.

I agree. They are actually some of my favorite coins in my collection. I love the bi metallic look and concept of the gold and platinum on one coin.

The LOCs are cool coins. The only bimetallic US coin. I love how the torch is plat but the flame is gold.

If you sold it, would you want one back in your collection in the future?
