Here is an interesting bit, from my ol' dogeared 1968 Redbook

Date Unc. Price Proof Price

1909 VDB 5.50 350.00
1909 6.00 85.00
1910 7.25 85.00
1911 8.50 85.00
1912 12.00 95.00
1913 11.50 95.00
1914 25.00 185.00
1915 70.00 275.00
1916 7.50 300.00

Howzabout someone pulling the same info our of a current Redbook, and see how it all compares?

    1909VDB-----$2,750
    1909--------------400
    1910--------------335
    1911--------------350
    1912--------------350
    1913--------------375
    1914-------------blank
    1915--------------575
    1916--------------800

The blank for 1914 is a perfect example of how poor Whitman is with proof reading data. All this info is from the 2008 Redbook which went to press in March, 2007. Prices are intended to represent PR63 grade for whatever that means. Steveimage

And this is off the current PCGS price guide

    conditions are MS65RD and PR65RD

    1909 VDB.............200............50000
    1909....................130..............2400
    1910....................280..............1900
    1911....................440..............7250
    1912....................200..............5250
    1913....................430..............2350
    1914....................525..............2200
    1915....................360..............3500
    1916....................125............11000

Of course these prices are for PCGS slabbed coins. both redbook and pcgs will gladly and lovingly inform you that pcgs coins sell at a premium
Redbook prices do not reflect this premium as prices. I picked 65RD becuase I feel that is the grade most commonly thought of as "niiiiiice" for coins
    that are not spectacular rarities.
