You sure got dat right. Be still, my beating heart. image

Of course these ain't very appealing from a design standpoint. But since I used to live within hollerin' distance of where they were made, they were always in my mind when I went out detecting. My uncle, who still lives in the area, has bought a few (unholed, slabbed examples). My uncle has much deeper pockets than I do.

One holey goldie that got away from me was a holey 1601 Scottish Sword & Scepter piece. Holey hammered gold is something I would like to have more of. A holey Scottish gold coin was just too cool. But whoever it was that was selling it wanted WAY too much, as I recall, and I couldn't afford it anyway.

I doubt any additions to the Holey Gold Hat are coming in the near future, with bullion prices being as they are. Even at melt, some of this stuff is just too much for me now.

Believe it or not, I actually added a gold coin to the hat for twenty bucks, a few years back. It was a little French Napoleon III five-franc piece. 1853, I think.
