will pcgs offer "spot" cleaning on eagles?

Just out of curiosity (I have some mint sealed 20th anniversary sae sets that need grading) if the coins are removed by PCGS

for grading, and they have milk spots on them, what happens? Do they offer a "cleaning" service for an upcharge? Do they

bodybag them and send them back to you ungraded? If they do send them back and you dip them in a solvent (some recipes

I've seen on this forum) to remove the milk spots, can you re-submit them and still get the 20th anniversary designation on all

the coins in the set? (since they have a history of their being submitted previously?) If they don't offer the "cleaning of milk spots,

do you think they should and should we lobby them to do so? Thanks for the responses in advance....Luckyman

If they knew how to clean them they would offer it or do it. Once the spots form on the uncirc coins they can't be removed.

  • I've read on other posts here of a solution that seems to work in relation to cleaning the spots without compromising

the integrity of the coin. Some have said they've done it and had coins graded and slabbed with no residual effects.

Maybe I've misunderstood the posts, if not.....Please chime in!

Some say the spots can be remover from proof surfaces; others say if you dip the coins before submitting [this applies to other coins as well, not just the ASEs] that the spots will not appear. Its possible that if someone knew exactly what the spots were it might be fixable.

Haze on proofs is removeable, milk spots on UNC's is not. Milk spots are not ON the surface of the coin, it is IN the surface of the coin from what I understand.

Send em in under grade review and get a whole new outlook on the "spot" price of silver. You might get $50 over spot or $50 cuzza spots.
