Is Fleer Tradition the same as regular "Fleer"?

I am trying to collect a sample of cards from each year of the regular Fleer sets. I see in recent years there is no regular "Fleer" set, but is "Fleer Tradition" still considered the regular Fleer set, or do the regular sets no longer exist?

Thanks!

Matt

Im not positive but I thought Fleer tradition was a heritage retro knockoff?

    LOL

Kirk you may be right. What then was Fleers attempt at the retro thing?

  • In 2000, Fleer issued what they called "Fleer Tradition". This is a set that I collect with autographs. I know there are sets after this one but I don't how they are officially named.

I'm not sure how much this adds to the collective knowledge on the subject, but the 2003 Fleer Tradition design mirrors the 1963 Fleer set. In that regard I figured that Fleer was producing cards along the lines of the Heritage sets which seems to be the status quo these days.

I know that Fleer Tradition has been out since at least 2001, they did an all horizontal set that year. I do not think thought that there was just a regular Fleer set for that year, but I am not 100% positive.
  • Here is what I got from the annual for base sets.
Through 1997 just Fleer was used.
    1998,1999,2000,2001-Fleer Tradition
    2002-Fleer & Fleer Tradition
    2003,2004,2005-Fleer Tradition
    2006-Fleer & Fleer Tradition

Not sure about 2007, my book is the 2006 version.

Don't forget that from 1997-99 Flair was renamed "Flair Showcase", but it's still essentially the same product (other than that whole Row 2/1/0 stuff of course).
