Just noticed something about a coin i posted a long time ago.

I'm going to do my best to get this posted. When i posted it a few year's back neither myself noticed this marking, I've seen it somewhere before, Most thought it wasn't a coin???? But i have kept it just the same..... Along with countless other's i seem to have acquired that just had something different about them. I think the whole freaking lot of us must have obsesive-compulsive disorder, Especially the darksider's since they aren't limited to Lincoln, Washington's and Kennedy on their coinage. Anyway, Back to this coin......... it's dated 1800 I'm not sure of the denomination , But there is a countermark that look's very familiar on the pic i am posting. Is this a SUD counterstamp or something to do with the early mexican counter-revolution ?

Any help is appreciated, ozzysdad47image

Interesting. What's on the other side?

Looks like a base metal token or contemporary counterfeit of some kind?

I see what you referred to as a possible "SUD" counterstamp, but to me (reading the letters the other side up), it looks almost like "LAS" in script?

Not sure what a Mexican counterstamp would be doing on a George III piece anyway. But I see what you mean- and your guess is as good as mine, in this case.

Looks to me like the SUD (or LAS, or whatever) is engraved on the die, though, rather than being a counterstamp added after the fact?

It doesn't look like a counter-stamp to me, as well, more like a part of the original die.
  • Thank's Roman, I just happened to be going thru some of my coin's and noticed it.... Wishful thinking on my behalf......... I've never seen another one like it........ Just kind of "Sharpshooting for an answer.......

    Thank's, Brad.....
