Fair price for a T218 set?

guy has one for sale on EBAY for a minimum bid of 1700.00........ 20 or so graded cards. Most of the rest Vg to EX with a couple better a a few worse. I am interested but think it is a little high for what i can pick up lots of these cards and keep building my own set. I am missing roughly 30 for my set right now.....Anyone have any auction results on other T218 sets that have sold over the last few years.

  • looks like a pretty neat set, is it primarily filled with boxers?

IMO it's a decent price at the BIN amount. The seller is solid as well.
What was (at the time) the #1 set (Virtualizard's) was broken up about 18 months ago and sold for around 21K. Prices have gone up considerably since then. I've got a dupe set that is almost complete and #5, when it's finished I"ll probably list it or consign it. I expect it to go for considerably more than the one on ebay, and think that set would have some cards certainly worthy of a strong submission.

61 Boxers in the set, and 1 ref. The other 91 cards are billard players, aviators, track and field, a walker, a roller skater (pretty scary looking one too), golfers, and a few other sports mixed in. One of the nicest issues of the pre WW1 era.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • Here is a pic of the Roller skater....and yes.....he is kind of scary!! also a few other examples for those of you who do not collect the set....it is a pretty cool set. Not very high prices on raw cards and you can actually find them to buy. Not that i am looking for increased competition on my auctions i am trying to bid on.....but i got tired of the high baseball prices for cards of the era....so i turned to Boxing and other sports.....i am glad i did. I think there is solid upside in this set, T220's and other boxing issues of the 1900 to 1920 era.
