The Mike Phillips is a nice card. I have about 50 copies with the notorious smudge on the front. PSA 8 is the best I have ever done.

    Dave,

Thanks for the Sheet E listing. I know that took a bit of time, so I appreciate it. I am very intrigued by the Cut Card Case, but I am really working on my fiscal responsibility...

Christmas bonus for 2010 was 10K less than 2009 (which means it was zero)...I am thinking of a bake sale to generate cash for more cards...LOL.

I just looked through Dave's list again and saw that Sheet E contains Mickey Klutts. Anyone sitting on a nice Klutts #232?

The ones I have are just terrible...Might make PSA 7 if I got them graded.

Oh, and I am excited by the recent interest in 1981 Topps!

Yes David, the flip was photo shopped. I stuck a piece of gum in a cracked slap that i had; then photoshopped the cracks/frosting/chips out of the slab. Sometimes my ADD gets the better of me.

Several of you have asked about the Sheet E vending cut case. I picked up the case a few weeks ago. I opened it to verify the series. Went through a couple hundred cards and the centering was hit/miss and the corners were great. There are 9 rows of 900+ cards each, stacked in rows of 3 (so basically a 3x3 box of vending).

From the ones I went through, there may have been 2 or 3 "GEM MINT" cards. Several MINT, but I'd say the centering would keep some of them out of a 10 holder. I'll try to get a scan of a few of the cards later this evening. I was able to generate a pretty good Sheet E list. image

I also have a Sheet C Case. I've not opened it yet but will more than likely open later this evening to verify the series and get a checklist of the Sheet C cards.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Does anyone know where you can attain Topps total baseball card production numbers for particluar years of cards?

Seems like we have some very educated members that know a ton about the production processes, but never heard anyone talk about production numbers

I think if you are looking for 9s, you can get them for $7-10 avg (you will have some extremes on some players). The 10's are a different story. I sold a Rollie 10 last week for roughly $15 and the fernando has sold for $400+ in the past.

    I've got some 9s if you're interested.

    Thanks,

The cases vary depending on who's on the sheet ($200-$600) if you can find them. They do not pop up very often on eBay. Some cases are a combination of sheets (i.e. Sheet D and E in the same vending case). You get 8500+ cards per cut case and they are all from the same sheet unless you purchase a combined sheet box. There are 60+ cards of each player on the sheet if you do not get a combined box (i.e. 60 Marvis Foleys, John Tudors, etc...).

Dave and Adams used to have them in stock, but I've not seen them list anything in quite some time. KrukCards has them every now and then and I've never seen BBCE offer one for sale.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

don't worry - the Rose and Henderson come up fairly regularly - so you will get another chance...There is a Reggie Jackson PSA 9 for sale on Ebay now and I would say that is a much tougher card to find. I've accidentally gotten my hands on a large lot of very clean, very well centered 1981 Topps. Anyone have any suggestions on which cards to pay particular attention to in terms of grading? Which ones are the toughies? PM me if you don't want to go public.

    thx
  • Options
Pete Rose (#180), Kirk Gibson (#315) and Fred Lynn (#720) are some of the big name toughies. Glenn Adams (#18) might be the toughest card in the set. There are only five 8s and none higher. Benny Ayala (#101) is another tough one with nothing higher than an 8.

Went thru a thousand 1981's .I have quite a few thousand in boxes that havent seen the light of day since 81. I pulled a few of the tough ones for grading.
A real nice Henderson, Skaggs, Klutts, Adams, Milbourne, Dempsey, Carlton, Brewers Stars, Todd cruz, Darrell Porter, and John Ellis. All are 50-50 or close to it.
