A buddy of mine dug a late-1500s/early-1600s cob half real on a site we hunted once. It was very close to (but not ON!) the Fort Frederica National Monument property. Was probably lost by one of the Spanish troops that fought in the Battle of Gully Hole Creek nearby in 1742. It was heavily worn and a little shaved-down, so it was obviously already a fairly old coin when it was lost.
