    Over the years I always assumed the runner was out, although it now appears as if he was safe!

    My research reveals that this was the first game of a double header on Thursday, July 16, 1970 at Yankee Stadium. The home plate umpire shown is Bill Haller.

    Outstanding photo and card, though it doesn't look like the card shot is the same as the still on that photograph.

    same play tho....the card shot is a split second later. obviously different photographers. i love seeing this stuff! like the original shots of classic cards or alternate views. that's probably my favorite card ever. thanks for that pic!!!

    I picked this up a few days ago...a familiar photo on the front...

    It's a roster / schedule / ticket info booklet for the 1971 season. I wonder if this predated the Topps card image. This must have been published prior to the '71 season which opened, for the Yankees on April 6th in Boston. Anyone know when Topps baseball hit the shelves? Probably March or April?

    I remember opening 1st series packs in early March, it was my first year anticipating cards and I checked the store every day. By spring break a month later we were into the 2nd series, and 3rd series had been out a while by the time school got out in mid June.

    Is that the runners helmet under Munson's right armpit ?
    If so, it doesn't show up in the Topps card.

    It appears the helmet is flying through the air...but these pictures aren't at the exact same time, so I'd guess in the Topps shot the helmet is already out of frame because he's swung down for the tag indicating it's a later photo.
