1883 Hawaii dollar ?

One of my customers (I have a trophy shop) came in today and told me he had an 1883 dollar from Hawaii. I showed him a picture of Hawaii KM#7 on Dons World Coin Gallery web site. He identified that as the same coin he has except his is gold. Can somebody help me with a price range? He claims it is not plated but is actually gold. I believe its a tousit peice but until I see it I dont know. I haven't seen it yet but will in the next day or two. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

The odds are high it is a brass or gold-plated tourist medal. My parents got me a set of medals back in the 1980's (all gold tone), and one of them was a copy of the 1883 akahi dala. I don't think there's any market value for it.

Thanks. I kind of thought thats what we might find. Sure hope he doesnt plan to retire on this.

I have also seen genuine pieces that were enameled, so the possibility of a genuine, but plated/gilded piece is there, even if the chances are slim.

This is probably the dala from the 1983 centennial commemorative souvenir set.

There's an example listed on the bay right now, ending 1/22, at this link.
