1715 2 Escudos

This 2 Escudos was consigned to me by a customer who paid 5,000 for the piece from a jewelry store in Florida while he was on vacation, I have advised him that he would be lucky to get north of $2000. Am I off the mark here, the only certification that he has is a certificate from the Jewelry store itself and no actual Mel Fisher paperwork or any other documentation of recovery. Let me know what you think, I haven't been able to match the piece up with any specific dies to determine year or mint. Thank you kindly.

You are correct, he will be hard pressed to get anything north of 2000.
I love Hyper-Inflated, Media Driven, Ship wreck coins that plummet in value once the hype dies down.

That can only be worn properly with a floral print shirt with the collar wide open and unbuttoned down to mid chest.

  • If the chain is gold, it is likely worth more than the coin. Assuming of course that it is a genuine coin.
