Does your GF/wife get better pack pulls than you?

my wife was already a football fan when we started dating, so it wasn't too hard for me to get her to enjoy busting boxes. Whenever we went to shows we would each end up getting our own box. I can remember one particular show years ago we ended up with 2 boxes of Ultra. Her auto pull....Edgerrin James....my auto pull....Who knows, he didn't make the team out of training camp.

Here is my favorite example though...we were both big fans of Lord of the Rings, and we each got 2 boxes while the movies were hot.
My two auto pulls...Faramir image and Gollum. Gollum was good, but one of the higher print run autos.
Her two auto pulls...Aragorn (viggo mortenson) and Sauramon (Christopher Lee). Both in the top three for sale prices back then.

Her best PC pull...Hines Ward auto/jersey /86
My best PC pull...Jerome Bettis random parallel /25

Plus, she pulled our greatest GU pull...Jim Thorpe.

For the most part, the trends above occured about 80-90% we both bought boxes

This pretty much explains why I no longer spend more than $150 yearly on boxes anymore.

Anyone else have the similar experiences/problem?

My wife opens about 10 packs a year. She usually gets the better cards. What she is really good at doing is picking out good packs/boxes. I could buy a case and never get a decent card. She can pick out one pack and I usually get something good.

  • My wife has found a lot of great stuff from opening packs of cards. She found 2 Alex Gordon Auto's from 06 Bowman Heritage. She found a Mickey Mantle game used from 07 Allen and Ginter. Also, she found a '33 Goudey from the 07 UD Goudey this past year and a couple of years ago found a '33 or '34 Goudey from I think it was a Fleer pack. She found a Pujols game used from 07 Allen and Ginter too. Yesterday she picked up a box of Donruss Americana and found a Travolta Proof 10/25 set worn shirt piece. I don't really care for him, but it was cool.
I'm trying to think of anything else. Oh yeah, back when I was opening '90's packs I think it was '93 or '94 Topps baseball, she would always find the Black Gold cards or the Redemptions that I was trying to collect. It's weird man. I mean seriously, we'll walk into a hobby shop and she'll tell the owner that she wants like the 3rd box down from the stack closest to the wall. We'll get it home and she'll crack it open and she'll pick out the packs she wants to open and sure enough, she'll find something really awesome and I'll get some crappy rookie no name. It's very strange.

I hoped that since I said pack pulls instead of just pulls that it may avoid that fate. Obviously didnt work.

I thought you were broke and selling everything?
  • I am indeed. But, last time I checked it was okay for someone's wife to spend $5 at Wal-Mart to get them something to cheer them up after a fairly crappy day.

<< <i>Dude, lay off, every time I say anything you come up and have some criticism. >>

I honestly cant ever remember addressing you before this, unless you imagined it in Guru-land.

<< <i>If you must know they were on sale at Wal-Mart for $5 yesterday. >>

Wow, for a whole box? Can you pick me up a few boxes?
  • Sorry Nam, I went back to my PM's it was someone else. I definitely apologize. I've had another crappy day and hope that you can forgive. It's been stressful. They were on sale at Wal-Mart yesterday for $5. 6 packs with 5 cards each. She got the only box they had at this one. But you might want to check it out if there's one near you.
Again, I'm sorry. I went back to edit. I extremely apologize. Sorry.

Not trying to be a jerk here, but Wal-Mart does not have "sales" they just price match other sales if you bring the ad. Also I have not seen the $5 boxes of Donruss Americana there. The blaster boxes of 6 packs are $19.99

If your wife tries to cheer you up thats cool, just say she spent $20 on you. Don't bring this $5 on sale at Wal-Mart story here. If you bring BS to the table here, be ready to get called on it- but atleast you didn't bet anything on it.
  • Dude, if you're calling my wife a liar you're taking it too far. She said $5 and she doesn't lie. That's what it rung up for.
Listen guys, I can't handle this today. Maybe if I would have had a better day for a better life I could. But not today. It's bringing way too much anxiety on me. I didn't realize I was going to have to start scanning reciepts and crap here. I just come here to escape sometimes.
Unfortunately you are being a jerk and calling me and my wife a liar and saying I BS is crossing the line. But hey thanks. I've got some other words I'd like to say and use, but unlike a lot of guys here, I'll refrain from doing that to hold on to some integrity.

Well if you are right I encourage you to call all the Wal-Marts in your area and see if you can find more. They sell for about $20 on the bay so this could be a chance for you to really make some cash. I am about to go to my local Wal-Mart and see if they have them for $5. Which Wal-Mart did you go to? What State and City because if they have any at my Wal-Mart I might try to tell them I bought some on vacation at that Wal Mart and see if they will call there and honor the $5 price. Maybe they will have a ton of boxes.
  • Guys, all I know is that she said she found it at the end of an aisle with a red sticker on it that said $5.99. I saw it, it had a red sticker on it that said $5.99 and the original sticker said $9.95. I'm sorry if no one believes me and I'm sorry if I've flown off the handle. It's been the day from hell and I just wanted to come here and get away from everything. I'm sorry if I pissed anyone off or that anyone had to question whether or not I was telling the truth. I just wanted to come here and chat, that's all.
  • seriously, folks chill out.
I've bought stuff thats mislabled at the store for significantly less than what it's "supposed to cost" maybe someone scored a deal.

Sorry your having a bad day bud. Happens to the best of us sometimes.

Guru - Here is the main problem I see. Do you honestly care whether I accept your apology or not? I do, and it's cool, but the fact that it might bother you if I didnt is the key here. You have to understand where you are, and who we are. You are on the internet, and we are strangers. Nice guys, but strangers.

You have to take what's said here with a grain of salt. There's a line in the movie Roadhouse that says "what if someone calls my momma a whore?" and Patrick Swayze answers, "is she?" Another cpmparison I can give you is that if someone on these boards called me stupid I wouldn't care, but if Albert Einstein called me stupid I'd be crushed. Do you understand?

All I did was ask you a question. I was actually hoping that your answer was going to be a happy one like "no, things turned around for me, and I dont have to sell off my collection", but instead you jumped to a conclusion that I was picking on you, which is something I have no history of doing. You're like a fragile mouse trap waiting to snap shut. Also saying things like you want to put a bullet in your head portrays you in a very negative light. Minus the drama you seem like a decent guy with a wife that cares for him a great deal. Do you really want to put a bullet in your head and leave her all alone? Shut the computer, have a nice dinner with your wife, and just lighten up man.

    Very True . . .

Today was a day of hell for me too , couldn't wait for it to end and come home and see what was new here .

Try listening to some mellow music , music always seems to mellow me out after a bad day , It can't be anything fast paced though .

F-W-I-W , I have also picked up $19.95 boxes that were marked $9.95 , Happens all the time , people that mark em are human and they have a bad day too .

As far as the old lady pickin better cards than me and my son ?

Ah ha ha ha ha , ALL THE TIME !

It is pretty much unbelievable , but it is what it is .
