grrrr!!! has anybody else had this??

I sent a card in.. a 62 post mantle.. ad back.. I thought it was a 9...
comes back a 4.. I get the card today.. and it has a noticable crease on the middle edge in...

never something I would miss.. especially when this card is known for that crease...

had to be caused by a handler... I am so ticked.. I handle these cards like they will crumble if I touch them
how are they doing it???

Sorry to hear that. I dont suppose you scanned it before sending it did you? If so, you may have recourse.

Do you have any images of it prior to sending it in?? Other wise I do not know how you can prove that PSA caused it.

I wonder about that too. Inserting the cards into Card Savers takes a little care. I know I can afford the time to do so since it's my cards and the numbers are small, but for the grader who needs to work through stacks and stacks of cards, accidents are bound to happen. I sympathize with the graders in this regard, but whenever it does occur on those rare occassions, the customer should be notified.

    Do you have any scans?

Did you contact customer service prior to making this post?

happened to me with a 52 bowman small tittle, was great looking card, good 7 or 8,came back a 3 ,creased

the crease may not even show on a scan..

but no.. I dont scan prior unfortunately..
this card is like a magazine ad ( it is exactly a magazine ad ) so it is much more fragile
like a piece of construction paper vs. cardboard..

I wish they were a little more careful.. I realize they are pressed for time.. but that could be a $400 -1000
swing in value they just caused..

stown.. no.. and I wont contact them.. what can you do??? it happened..
I am upset but not devistated... ya know?? and there is no way to prove it wasnt there when I sent it...
so I will just chalk it up.. and scan I guess in the future.. but would be very hard to scan everything.. as i send it bulk subs lately
  • Happened to me on my first sub. A nice 64 Topps Mantle - should have been a 7 with a shot at an 8, came back as a 3 with a crease right in the middle. They should at least acknowledge that it can happen and that there is a danger.

  • Had that happen with a Mantle refractor. Someone pressed down with their fingernail and imbedded a mark in the card. I was really pissed!

Yes, I have a '62 Mathews that I originally thought was an 8. I sent it in and it came back a 6 with a very small chip in the top border. It's hard to see from the scan, but it's on the top border, just to the left of his hat. I knew the chip wasn't there when I sent it in. I also knew that even with the chip, it was better than a 6. I cracked it out and sent it back in. It came back a 7 this time. The first scan shows the raw card before it was graded. The second scan shows the card slabbed as a 6 and I will update this as soon as the 7 comes back from PSA. If it was a crease, then I would be upset about it. However, since it is a chip, it is possible that it was there before, but still barely intact on the card so that I may have missed it.

  • Yeah, mine was definitely a 10 because I had just pulled it from a pack. When I handle refractors I use plastic gloves (I know it's weird) because I don't want to get finger prints on them. So, I pulled it from the pack and checked the corners and centering etc with a loupe and sent it away expected nothing less than 9. 10 easy. Came back with the fingernail as a 7. Boy was I pissed. I sent in a scan and everything and they did nothing.

I had 2 cards in a modern submission come back with one dinged corner. Same corner, same damage on each card - as if the grader dropped both of them at the same time. I called PSA to complain and they did not take responsibility since I couldn't prove that they damaged the cards.

Luckily they were relatively cheap cards but it was still frustrating. If it was one card, I might have thought it was my mistake. But since it was 2 cards, in order on the submission, I know I wouldn't have missed both.

These are both PSA 4. I had them in a binder and they rubbed against the rings. Both got tiny indents. I sent them in a bulk sub to get them holdered and keep them from getting worse. Pretty good looking 4s. Completely my fault, I wish I could blame PSA but I did it image

I've had a few cards come back with dinged corners that I sure would have noticed when I pulled them from packs. Modern stuff, but a Bowman Chrome orange refractor really shows off the dings, so it would have been glaring before I sent it. Hoped for 9-10 as it was 60-40, came back an 8. I cry a little when I see others graded higher and know that it cost me at least $100 in value.

Had about 3-4 mystery corner dings on that sub . . .
  • 4????????????? Awesome 4!

    Yes, has happened to me.

I sent in a 1967 Maris that was clearly a 9, straight out of the middle of GAI 9 cello pack, even hoping for the first 10.

I should add that I am no novice at this, I have sent in thousands of cards, and always use a loop, etc.

Came back with a large crease across the front in a 4 holder.

I of course could not prove PSA did it, so I ate the loss.

I would be interested to know if anyone else has a better solution - scanning every card I send in seems a bit too tedious.

I once sent in a 56 Jackie Robinson looking for at least an 8 and I am usually in the ball park with my estimate a grade lower or higher .When I got the Jackie back I also noticed a faint crease which the card did not have originally. It recieved only a 5.
