Most expensive Auto/Jersey card you pulled

I have horrible luck. I have probably spent thousands and thousands on cards and my best auto pull is a Leaf R/S Matt Schaub Auto/jsy RC. The card books for about a $100.

As for Non sports Autos, my best pull is a Stan Lee auto-maybe $50 book value.

I usually pull the horrible $10 or less autos. No luck I guess. I have pulled inserts that are worth more than that, Topps Chrome Big Ben #refractors.

Anyone else have the same horrible luck with autos, it's just years and years for me now.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

you and be both,3 years with nothing but rokies that end up at burger king or back to minors, i never get any star autos or old gu guys stuff- i could buy a 1000$ box guaranteed to have all fabulous stuff and there would be a factory error and be all zack grienke autos
, im done with modern except for allen and ginter, they are the only really impressive looking set out there to me, plus you can auto em nice on the white instead of the ugly 2007 toops bb/fb/basket all same pattern they pulledlast year- i bought your wwf cards last night lol

zep gets all the good pulls, he got the touch, i sure dontimage

  • I have a file on my computer with scans of all of my big hits over the years. Here are just a few of them. If I remember correctly the Yao got me the biggest $$. The Stan Lee "Mr. Marvel" was the only one out there at the time. Not sure how many more have turned up over the years.

  • I've never been a huge spender on boxes. If I'm gonna drop $100-$200 on something I'd rather put the money into specific cards. Granted, I have been known to get the occasional blaster box for $10 or $20.

In any case, I have had at least 2 notable sucess stories:

    1) Willie Mays Sweet Spot autographed card redemption from a single pack. I traded it for a Nolan Ryan on card autographed card with a piece of a game worn Mets jersey.

    2) Rafael Palmeiro POH signed bat card. I had just accepted a pay cut with less office requirements to be able to continue working with a group of kids. For whatever reason, I decided to buy a few packs of cards and got the card. I sold it for $500, which was a great blessing at the time.
  • 2005 Cracker Jack bought a single retail pack and pulled a Alex Rodriguez autograph mini card numbered 13/50. Sold it for 400.00 2 days later.

#2 was a Ben Roethlisberger/Phillip Rivers dual autograph card.

Looking for a Glen Rice Inkredible and Alex Rodriguez cards
  • I've only busted five or six hobby boxes in my life...only some '05 Donruss Elite and '07 Topps Heritage. These two were pulled from my first or second box and got me back into the hobby for good.

Pulled a 2 color Dwyane Wade Auto/Patch rc from Exquisite back in 03/04. Sold it for $550 shortly thereafter. During the playoffs the year the Heat won the title, it sold for $6k. D'oh. That card will haunt me til the day I die.
  • I've had some great pulls along with some really crappy ones.

Some of my best pulls that I can remember

    Lebron Ultimate Collection Auto RC
    Scottie Pippen Auto Jersey /6
    Walter Payton Cut Signature Auto
2 Willie Mays Autos from 2001 Fleer Rack Packs
    Pedro Martinez Autographics /10
Don Mattingly Fleer Legacy Auto'd Cap
Barry Bonds Fleer Legacy Auto'd Cap
    Randy Moss Patch numbered 1/1
Peyton Manning Redemption for Auto'd Jersey from UD Authentics
    Debbie Rochon Auto /50 image

Peyton Manning Redemption for Auto'd Jersey from UD Authentics >>

That reminded me of a redemption that I got of a Manning signed football piece. It was framed and matted with an 8 X 10. Pretty nice piece for $3. image
  • I loved UD Authentics Football for the redemptions. Problem was the redemption box was in the same spot in every case. Although my one 6 box case had 3 redemptions which threw me for a loop.

I also thought Fleer Legacy Baseball was a great product, had a lot of great signers. I got lucky out of the 3 boxes getting Mattingly, Bonds, and RC's of Pujols and Ichiro and a Hot Gloves Redemption of Ken Griffey Jr.

That's a good point, and another reason why I got out of buying boxes of cards. Now granted, the dealer I bought from was very honest. To this day, he is the only dealer that would honestly tell you if the "hit" was still in the box. However, when it came to higher end stuff, he would try to open a box or two in hopes of hitting the 1/1 case hit and would not tell buyers if they had a shot at it.

I have been trying to get a Jordan auto for a while, no luck yet. But my recent UD Chronology 6 box break had some very nice letter autographs including Yao Ming and Bill Russell, and a Kevin Durant RC.

But when I was younger (12-13 years old), I never pulled a jersey as the odds were much worse then. But the best thing I pulled was a Juan Gonzalez Gold Refractor! LOL!

Collected from 1980 to mid 90's, then stopped when factory ordered cases/boxes couldn't sell for what you paid for them, even if you had a show 3 days later.

Got into the UD Legendary Cuts in 2001(not sure why, other than getting a cut auto sounded really cool). Pulled a Joe Cronin cut, #9/12. Wound up selling if off Ebay for 1K before the 2002 Legendary Cuts came out. Unfortunately, that kind of got me back into busting . . .

Got a Lincecum orange auto from 07 BC. Haven't sold that yet, but likely will around spring training. That was an awesome pull, but just can't compare with the Cronin.

Just yesterday I pulled a Mario Lemieux Inks card from a pack of Fleer Flair hockey. I believe it books for $200.00

I think half the fun is opening the box and being surprised by the quality "prize" its almost like gambling except there is no real expectation of winning.

My best pulls have been Berra (sold for $250 on ebay) and Koufax autos from one of the sweet spot sets, a Gehrig bat card and the Mel Ott patch card I'm using as my avatar.

Sweet mercy what a nice card. Even the patch looks like it really is vintage. How much did you sell it for?

Card booked for $600 and I sold it to my card shop owner for $150 or $175. Good thing is he most likely owns it still as he doesnt really do cards. He sells packs and a few other peoples cards and thought it was a neat card. I've known him for 21 years (I just counted, wow 21 !!) so I was glad it went to someone I know. I spent $20 on ebay fees trying to sell it for 2-3 weeks and no takers. Now that Im out of the hole, I think sometimes about asking if he'd sell it back to me.

I bought one pack at his shop. Opened it in the car. Wife was driving and our 2 young boys in the back. I exclaimed a curse word on accident when I pulled it. Being that I normally dont cuss, my boys were shocked. So was I !!! A Babe Ruth Jersey....piece. Got the same feeling when I pulled a Don Mattingly 2000 Fleer Greats of the Game Jersey with stripe. Thats a nice set.

  • Pulled a 2001 Leaf R & S Slideshow Albert Pujols jersey rookie in '02. It happened to be #'d 3/25. Yes his jersey number. Got $380 for on the bay in '03. Of course I sold it right before the huge spike in the value of his rookies. Probably could have got at least double if I had waited a few more months.

That's one of the coolest memorabilia card sets ever made. I'm not a big GU collector because of all the fraud, but a very cool set nonetheless.

George Mikan auto from Fleer GOTG Basketball. I bought all 11 packs that the store had (at something like $2.50 a pack), and pulled that as well as Bob Knight and Kareem autos.
