How much would a 1909 VDB MPL in PR67RD go for?

Just curious what everyone thinks one would sell for. A fellow collector and I were speculating over the summer it might be worth $50-75K, which would be quite low given recent auction results. Any ideas?

Brothers, right now it's just speculation, so I'll guess $150,000.

    Paul,
A lot of factors would go into this.
    1. Is the coin in an auction with at least TWO people who REALLY want the coin and also can AFFORD to pay six figures for it?
    2. Is the coin slabbed by PCGS?
    3. Is the coin fully red with no distracting spots?
    4. Does everyone who sees it "in hand" agree it is a PR67RD?

If the answer to all four questions is YES, talk to Stewart and find out. I believe that as far as the 09VDB goes, the SELLER controls what the coin will sell for. If you have willing buyers, the sky is the limit. JMHO. Steve

Maybe 250K if all conditions were right?

We will know a bit more after the PR66RD sells at Long Beach, this will help in figuring things out.
If the Long Beach example brings near or slightly over 100K then Stewarts coin is worth the above number. IMO

Here are the last 3 1909 VDB MPL sales that I am aware of. IMO, all past sales except these 3 are irrelevant because they sold in a period prior to the recent MPL boom.

    ALL PCGS graded
    PR64BN $34,500 1/9/2008
    PR65RB $41,000 10/31/2007
    PR65RD $46,000 8/4/2007
    PR66RD $? 2/13/2008

Why not think big here, and go all the way? 1909VDB PCGS PR70RD

If, perchance, the mint director pulled the first coin off the press, handled it with cotton gloves, set it in a vacuum jar. Then, it sat forgotten till today, when someone like Fred Sanford bought an old desk.....and found it in a secret drawer?

Would have made for a great "sanford and son", eh? (I love that show!)

I was referring to one of the PCGS examples, of which there are two. There are currently none certified at this level from NGC.

I believe 100K was already turned down over a year ago.

My guess would be close to $300K.
