Welcome! Top one is a Great Britain penny, while the one below it is Canadian.

Somewhere in storage I have a big ol' canvas bag of British pennies (of the decimal kind, small size).

I used to enjoy buying bags of large pennies from Gatewest and sorting through them for the Victorian and Edwardian coins. Lots of fun --- but after an hour or so my hands would be black and I could taste bronze in my mouth!

About 20 years ago I ran some ads in The Restrike to buy British large pennies. Bought a few collections that had been greased with gun oil as a "preservative." Like mixing an egg in your dog's food, this gave the coins a nice shiny coat.

British pence on top, Canadian penny on the bottom. Both are worth face value.

The 1971 British New Penny is the first year of issue after the conversion from the old LSD (Pound, Shilling, Penny) monetary units to the new decimal coinage. Massive mintage on these to support the conversion to decimal - 1,521,666,000.

I have 23 of these myself. They are hard to avoid image

The 1994 Canadian 1 Cent is only slightly more scarce with a mintage of 639,516,000.
I'm shocked - it's one of the few dates in the series I do not have - the only date I'm missing in QE's reign up to 2001! image Of course living here on the frozen tundra I collect Canadian coins from my pocket change image
