Home Metal Detecting

Finds this weekend

Well, this isn't very exciting to most but I found the following at the playground sand lot while practicing with my detector:

3 dimes
2 pennies
2 toy cars
a bunch of foil trash

Hey, the weather was great, the whole family participated, and it was good practice... what more do you want!!

  • I highly recommend those sand lots... It's a great way to get to know what your detector is telling you, plus, you never know what will show up in there (rings, necklaces, and I've even heard of gold and silver coins showing up in those lots too!)

Congratulations.. great practice session, and fun for everyone. Cheers, RickO
  • Rockdogz,

Keep plugging away and the goods will come. Like Riccar said, strange things have shown up in the sand lots. Normally, you will dig tons of foil (not actually, but it sure does seem like it) but the good finds are there. I use to hit one of the tot lots here--the first time I went out, no one had been detecting there for some time. I found close to $3 in change and probably 7 pieces of jewelry (3 of the pieces were from the same bracelet that had broken apart). Since that first time, someone else has been hitting it fairly regularly. I don't get by there all that much any more, but if I run out of spots to go, I'll always give it a go.

Congrats and keep swinging that coil. Keep us informed on your finds.

    That's the attitude! image

Don't ask me what more I'd want- I could think of all sorts of things. Such is human nature. But you got what really counts. Fun (which is even greater if the family participates) and practice. Being outdoors in great weather is enough for some folks. Bring a metal detector along, and anything you get it is just icing on the cake!
