FUN newp from Prussia

I had the same experience as several other board members at this year's FUN show --- slim pickings. I was hunting for German portrait medals and other commemoratives of the Kaiserreich era (1870s - 1918), satirical engraved coins from the Franco-Prussian War, etc. Usually FUN has a better selection, but I was mentally prepared for the worst, figuring most of the better material would be up in New York.
I did find one very nice addition for my collection: an "homage" medal of Prussian king Friedrich Wilhelm IV --- a silver specimen of the piece written up by Udo last year (here).
It was nice to meet Civitas, though only in passing, as I was hunting down U.S. merchant tokens for an upcoming Whitman book on exonumia. Paul Cunningham, Steve Hayden, and Steve Tanenbaum always have strong inventories of great material.
Anyone make any good purchases at FUN?

OK, Darksiders, so out of the shows in the Southeast this year, which is THE one we'll be gathering at? Let me know in advance so I can make plans. You wouldn't wanna miss at least one opportunity to watch a fat, jinglesome fellow in a Holey Coin Vest strolling the bourse floor and getting strange looks and comments, now, would you?

Congrats on your nice addition

I took some photos from an angle, to show the depth of the design, but I need to download the right Twain driver for my camera. In the meantime, here are some straight-on shots:
I know I was lucky to find it, and it's a treasured part of my collection now.
I'm working on an article for the Women in Numismatics journal, about a beautiful Agricultural Society medal that features Kaiserin Augusta Louisa (consort of Wilhelm I, grandmother of "Kaiser Bill"). That was another great find. I happened to run into Jonathan Kern at Alan Berman's table a few shows ago, and asked him if he had anything in German Kaiserreich. He had just bought the Kaiserin medal in a collection a few hours earlier. My eyes lit up! It's unusual to see a German portrait medal that features a princess, queen, or even an empress all by herself.... usually she's conjoined with her husband (for wedding commemoratives, anniversary medals, etc.).
