CANADA Large Cent experts

This one is notorious for all the various varieties! Any ideas which variety this one is: wide/narrow 9, etc?

Lots of working dies used on 1858 and 1859 cents had various digits of the date re-punched. The most popular, and currently the most valuable, varieties involve the 9 of the 1859's. Having said that, other varieties such as your re-punched 5 are starting to be more popular as ongoing research determines their relative scarcity.

Your specific coin may or mat not demand a small premium because of the five, but demand will be low because not much has been published as yet about these interesting coins.

    Thank you, sir.
I am assuming it's unlisted as a variety.

  • A freind pointed to the webpage below.
The webmaster seems to be trying to catalog varieties.
He doesn't seem to show the one I have pictured.
