Anyone know any good & legal places to detect in the New York area?

I'm brand new to detecting, any tips, advice, etc. would be helpful. Last year I got a Garrett Ace 150 for Christmas in 2006 and want to start using in the spring. Thanks for any advice. I live in the Queens area.
