Home Metal Detecting

First finds

Well, I just got my Garrett Ace 250 from Kellyco today, and even though I got home after dark I had to try it out!
So I go to my front yard and pull these beauties:

Ok, so not exactly beauties, but my first finds that I'll always remember!
Obviously they were not that nice when I pulled them from the ground - I also got my order today from JP's Corner which included a coin cleaning kit so I decided to try it out. I scrubbed these with Nic-A-Lene and one of the wire brushes and they cleaned up very nice!

I also got a rusty nail and a piece of scrap metal.
I can't wait to try it in the day time and see what else I can find!
My only disappointment was to break the metal spade that Kellyco sent me on my 4th dig. Oh well...

Hm. I'd forgotten about Nic-A-Lene. Never tried it on dug stuff.

Hopefully Kellyco didn't send you a cheapo gardening trowel. Those are just too flimsy for detecting use.

Get yourself a 3-In-1 ("Hori Hori") knife or a Lesche digger or something of that ilk. You'll pay a bit for it but it will be worth it. I have used my Hori-Hori knife for nearly 15 years, now.

Congratulations on those first finds- I know they aren't terribly earthshaking, but the first finds seldom are. Thank you for taking the time and trouble to post them, and I hope we'll be seeing more of your finds here on the MD Forum soon.
