1892 Denmark 1 Krone

I found this in a bulk lot ( unsearched image and sold by the pound) of misc. world coins that I purchased. Krause (797.1) shows a mintage of 701,000 and a value of $65.00 in XF and $140.00 in UNC. My pictures are poor I know, but in hand this sure looks at least XF or maybe even AU. Is there a market for these?

Whatcha think?

Nice find. To find any silver in a bulk lot is unusual unless it was a bulk lot of silver coins. Not sure of the value. Looks like it could be VF or EF. Hard to tell from the image. imageimage

  • This was not sold as bulk silver coins. It was just misc. coins. Most of them were pretty generic. In the same lot, I also found a 500L (1966) from Italy in XF/AU condition along with many 10 and 25 Ore from Sweden (.4000 silver).

I will see about time to get a scan of the 500 Lire.

BTW thanks for putting the picture in the post, ajaan. How do you do that?
  • Judging by your pictures I would say it's an XF by US standards, gVF by Scandinavian. Nice find! I'm sure there is a market for this coin. It's not as rare as the mintage might indicate, but it certainly is scarce. These tend to sell at a decent price on Ebay if the images are good.

Silver, much less larger silver from the 1800s, is a definite rarity in bulk lots.

Congratulations on a truly terrific cherrypick! image

PS- looking at your pictures, I agree with your grading assessment. It looks to be a solid XF to me, and possibly even an AU. Without seeing it in hand, and examining the finer details with a loupe, I will go with XF to be conservative, but it looks like XF45 from where I sit.

XF in my book. Not AU unless there is far more lustre than what is apparent in the pics.
  • This is the Italian 500L also in this bulk lot. Nice coin. Once again, looks better in person than with my poor scanning skills.
