Lost Registered Mail receipt. Is there anything you can do?

I had a family member ship and item while I was away and they lost the registered mail receipt. Ofcourse that would be the one item that the buyer claims they did not receive. Is there anything I can do to get the # from the post office? If everyone signs for it shouldn't they be able to pull it up with the sender and approximate date? Anyone ever dealt with this before. It is about a $100 item, but I would rather not give away $100.

Registered mail? or do you mean delivery confirmation? Registered mail is under lock and key etc.

if it is registered mail then you must still have the address? If so, you could then contact that post office and they should know if it was truly delivered. Then you could narrow it down. From your post office to his etc.

Yeah it was Registered Mail under lock and key. I have the address and all, I just do not have the receipt with the # on it. All I need is the # so I can enter it on the PayPal site and I am guessing that the site will say it is delivered.

After calling the post office several times I was told that they do not keep that kind of information and they cannot look it up. I find that hard to believe and if that is true then they are just asking for someone to rip the post office huge on a registered mail insurance claim. Anyways I decided to use the only angle I could think of so I emailed the buyer, who did not know I had lost the receipt, and told them that I spoke with the postmaster and he was furious. He assured me that he would find where the package had been sent or he would have the job of the last carrier to handle it. The item was sent Dec. 6th to Germany and guess what.....the day after I sent that email the buyer closed the claim and left positive feedback. Not sure if it really took that long and just arrived or if the buyer tried to pull a fast one and changed their mind at the last minute. Either way KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS IN A SAFE PLACE !

I sent a domestic registered 12/20/07 and it was delivered 01/05/08. I'm guessing it just took that long.

    Allen, I think you're screwed.
My only chargeback (over $200) was sent to Germany by Registered Mail. The guy filed a chargeback on the 12th day after the auction ended. I shipped the following day after the auction ended cos he had paypal immediately. Anyway, I found out that this guy was ripping everyone off cos Germany doesn't scan their packages once it was delivered. I had the tracking # and everything, but all it said was that it was accepted by my PO when I dropped it off. It never went any further. After this guy won the claim, he immediately closes his ebay account to become NARU, and sets up another one. I was following his trail and he was buying up big $ cards, and repeating the process....chargeback, closes said ebay account, and starts another one. After that, I never shipped outside of the U.S.
Good luck, but it doesn't look good.

Just out of curiosity, was this guy's name Christian Lil? That name is going to stay with me forever.
