Old ANACS photo grading and certificate question

I have a question. Do coins that have the old ANACS photo grade and certificate carry and premium? Someone I know has an old 1878 CC Morgan that is enclosed in one and graded 60/63 and looks like it is graded corectly. They were just going to rip it out and sell it, and I thought it might have a premium possibly. Thanks in advance.

Many dealer treat them as ungraded coins, at least around here. Hey grading standards have changed since the 80's.

Keep the certificate with the coin. Many collectors think they're a neat part of the history of the hobby. While they have little or no commercial value, it may help sell the coin to someone who is interested in such things..

Definitely keep it with the coin.

If you post it on the forum BST there are collectors that collect old slabs and this would count.

I take it that standards have tightened since the 80s?

Dam. I paid for a MS-64, it ANACS graded MS-63, and is probably now MS-62. I once read a book that predicted silver dollars would be an excellent hedge against inflation.image

Well, when I was grading back in the early 80's we did not call Bust coins with wear on them MS-62's, so draw your own conclusions.....

I think the old ANACS photo and certificate grades - like that one posted by coinJP - are pretty cool...especially the way they break down the grade by luster, surface, etc.

unlike pla$tic, the photo-certs were a great contribution to the hobby.

Huh? Not sure what CAC stickers on slabs has to do with the old ANACS photo certificates. Care to explain what you mean?

Sure, what I meant was that the CAC sticker only (re) certifies the grade of a coin. So the old ANACS holders went beyond that IMO by grading both sides of the coin IN DETAIL with a photo, descriptions, etc.

Thanks for posting the "certificate." I wish the current TPG's would separately grade the obverse and reverse as it once was done. Upon reflection, the fact that many coins do have different grades applicable to their reverse and obverse leads one to the conclusion that net grading remains alive and well.
