It looks like...

...the same refs who gave the Steelers their super bowl win are out there again tonight. Hines Ward clearly had his hand on and twisted the facemask of the defender who was wrongly flagged for pass interference. Then, of course, Pittsburgh scores on the next play. What a terrible, terrible, terrible call.

Yep. Was about to post the same thing. Jacksonville fans, coaches and players should be furious.

  • Refs aren't gods and don't see in slow motion like you see on a TV replay, though I think when we become partisan in anything it is always "their team" that is wrong and "our team" is either perpetually screwed by the refs or are the beneficiary of "great game-calling."

It's part of the game and that what makes it great. If everything was done with a fine tooth comb and we wind up putting microchips in the ball to make sure it did or didn't cross the goal line or something else to make it a perfect game would proably make it boring.

  • Didn't take seeing it in slow motion to see the defender's head completely twisted and pulled to the side...doesn't matter anyways, the better team won and is advancing.

You guys are hilarious...thinking the refs have some kind of 'motive' or something.

What about the phantom holding call on Mahan on the Ward 2 point conversion that was nullifed, what about the catch by Holmes in the first half that was overturned, etc...it goes both ways...

    Axtell,
There is no way in hell that Jacksonville (or Pittsburgh, for that matter) would have come within 21 points of New England next week...doesn't really matter in the scheme of things...

Correct, justice was served. I don't know how hard it is for an official to see a blatant face mask 10 feet in front of them, Apparently, pretty difficult. And that is different from trying to determine whether a catch is a catch on a bang bang play. It's just incompetent, really and right or wrong it makes people wonder whether there are more Tim Donaghy's out there.

A bang bang play? They had about 5 minutes to look at it in review. The holding call 'supposedly' happened just like your facemask call.

The refs calls were HORRIBLE tonight and that went both ways. They couldn't even get the replays right!

I'm talking about the call on the field. What you said just supports my contention that the officials were incompetent - including those in the booth.

The PI call wasn't reviewed. But if it was, it didn't "supposedly" happen. It was there for all the world to see, except, apparently, the zebra standing 10 feet away.

The bad calls went both ways, believe me. Did you watch the whole game?

The worst non-call by the officials was the flagrant holding by the Jag's Barnes #69 on James Harrison #92 on that crucial 4th and 2 where Garrard run for 32 yards to pretty much lock-up the game. Harrison had Garrard died to rights and Barnes bearhugged Harrison from behind locking Harrison's arms against his body. How the officials missed that was a travesty.

Sloppily officiated both ways as it turned out. Some egregious calls each way by the time it was over. Roethlisberger's mistakes turned out to be the Steeler's undoing, not the refs.

Any mistake by Pitt coaches, going for 2 with the amount of time left ??
This aint no party,... this aint no disco,.. this aint no fooling around.
  • Pretty sure the biggest mistake was the vaunted pittsburgh 'defense' allowing Garard to run for 30 on a 4th and 2.

As mentioned earlier in my prior post, no mistake by the defense on this play. The Jag's 12th Man, the Ref, gets all the credit - not Garrard.
