PROOF LINCOLN CENT COMPLETE VARIETY SET WEIGHTINGS

I took a look at the weightings assigned to the new Proof Lincoln Cent complete variety set registry (1909-to date) and comparied it to the existing Proof Lincoln Cent with Major Varieties (1909-to date)
The complete variety set adds 12 new coins and assigns various weights to each. What I find interesting is that the weights of some of the Major Varieties have changed in the Complete Variety set. The most glaring change is the 1990 no S which has a weighting of 10 in the Major Variety set, but only has a 6 weight in the Complete Set. Another glaring change is on the 1979 S type 2 which has a weighting of 1 in the Major Variety set and now has a weighting of 3 in the Complete Variety set. How a fairly common 1979 proof cent, type 2 deserves a 3 weighting is beyond me.

I am not a current collector of these 12 new proof varieties, but I thought some of you who are collecting this complete set may have some comment or some rationale as to WHY some of these changes were made. Thanks.

  • I imagine that PCGS is still fine tuning the weights, and will be for the near future.

Steve, regardless of how its weighted, that is one TOUGH set to get completed. The first one with 100% has full bragging rights. Yet, I think SEVERAL proofs are missing like the 55 DDR, 57 DDO, and should be added. I have 4 extra 1953 DDO from PR 63 to PR66. If anyone has an extra 1951 DDO and wants to trade, please contact me.
