Is anyone here from Oklahoma City?

I have a great job opportunity and am considering moving to OK City from Chicago. I'd like to hear from anyone who lives there or is otherwise familiar w/ the City.

Regards,

Texas not in the plans Greg? Good luck! Oklahoma City seems nice from what I've read/heard.

    Greg,

You should PM Mick Cornett. He goes by "Galveston" on the CU Forums. He's in Oklahoma City...

Greg, my current Army unit's Division HQ is located there, so I visit quite often. Its easily the nicest city in Oklahoma. Lots to do downtown in the the "Bricktown" area. Its very modern, a lot of tourists go there just to visit.

Not sure about housing, but the cost of living is pretty low. Lower than Dallas anyway. Lots of casino's on the Indian reservations too.

It wouldn't be my first choice to live (Its still Oklahoma..lol) but I wouldn't be upset if I had to move there. One of the downfalls similar to Dallas is that you are minimum 4-5 hours away from the nearest other "big city". So if you want to travel and see new places, its a long drive to anywhere else.

Actually he's the mayor of Oklahoma City. Haven't seen him post much since he got elected though. I've had nothing but flawless transactions with him.

If Galveston were still posting I guess he'd tell you that if you move there you need to leave the Cheetos at home!

Sportswise, if you're a football fan, the entire state of Oklahoma is for you. Ok City also has the AAA baseball 89ers and the Central Hockey League's Blazers. Card collecting wise, you may have to rely more on the internet. I live in Wichita, KS but it's the same area. Alas, the pickings are pretty slim in terms of shows, major dealers, etc.

Yes, you definitely have to drive a lot more out here to go anywhere. Plus, the drives are uninteresting (though you're from Illinois so you're used to flat country). Overall, IMO, the cost of living here is definitely worth the move.

    Greg,
I think you will love the city. I have a commercial building in OKcity and travel up there once a month. I love the city and would not mind living there. It is very laid back and has a lot of potential for financial growth. The housing market is so cheap compared to Chicago and the people are pretty nice as well.

I grew up near Tulsa so I prefer it over OKC but it is really nice. Lot's to do and Norman is close by so you can get some good College FB action if you want. Downside is that it is on the "plains" side of the state, meaning it's flat and not as many trees as the eastern part of the state "think ozarks". Outside of OKC there is lots and lots of commerical cattle ranches and wheat.

I played polo in college and got a summer job at Bob Moores (big time construction and car dealer) horse ranch near OKC (he raised a Kentucky derby winner) and got to drive around there quite a bit. OKC's downtown district reminds me of Indianapolis.

RedHeart, don't feel too bad about not having anywhere to shop up there. I live in Fort Worth and there hasn't been a decent shop here in at least 9 or 10 years, maybe more like 15.

Greg, It's a beautiful city. My work brings me there a couple times a year and it really is a nice place.
Friendly people and a clean city. Cost of living is very reasonable. good luck. Joe

  • Sorry I am so late to respond. I have not been checking the boards lately.
I personally think all of you should move to Oklahoma City. No traffic Congestion. Low housing prices. Plus, downtown, heroic sized statues of Mickey Mantle, Johnny Bench and Warren Spahn!!!!
Seriously, the city is doing really well. Actually, the city is doing better than my 1971 kellogg's set which has slipped to number two in the registry.

    Mayor Mick
Strong buyer of 1970 Kelloggs Football & 1971 Kelloggs Baseball and Football. Please help me find cards!
