Nominations and thank-yous for quality posts

Just wanted to get in a thank you to LordM for an average posting quality of 9.9 with me.

He's been doing it here for more than a while, tells a marvellous story; digs in the ground, not just coin shops; moves from US to Vicky to Ancients with equal ease; sells and buys every thing as well- what more do you want?

There are other singular posters I'd like to thank for a solid year's worth of contributions but I'd like forum members to do that- did you have a favorite post or poster? Who went from image novice to pretty gosh-darn good imager? Who do you think learned the most? Who helped you grow most as a Numismatist? This is the time to thank them.

Great idea! I would like to nominate Cacheman for his fantastic Goetz and Gies posts throughout the year. His commentary for every new acquisition is fantastic and makes the medal/coin really stand-out in your mind. image

WOW! There are so many deserving forum posters here that it is a very hard choice. My personal coice is cacheman because of the way he has introduced me to the world of art medals through his incredible Goetz posts including the history behind them.
But I have to say thanks to all!!!!!

I'm going to go with Preussen and 1960NYGiants. Preussen knows his German coinage and without 1960NYGiants help on Canadian coins, I would be lost sometimes! Thanks guys!

  • I second the nomination of Roman...he seems to be out there first every time a newbie needs help (including me, a few months ago...not that I don't still need help).

Do I really have to pick just one? LordM with knowledge of a little bit of everthing including the Metal detecting forum... Preussen and 3Mark with their German knowledge, Coinpictures! ... oldshep, what a neat idea for collecting and so many great ship pics posted this year! TwoKopeiki and the photos and the knowledge of reales of all types. Laurent makes me laugh at times with the witty remarks. Blackhawk! Always a delight for me to read. CIVITAS, doogy, satootoko, sumnom, stork, DorkGirl, SYRACUSIAN, ajaan, FilamCoins, wybrit, coinkat, Hyperion, theboz11... Who else has knowledge like these people do? I know I have overlooked some great posters here, but trust me, I READ AND APPRECIATE THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even if I don't always post anything in return.

There is no way I could ever pick a single favorite, EVERYONE has had something to contribute this year! Including the newcomers who aren't afraid to ask the questions most of us "experienced" pros are supposed to know and are hesitant to ask. ASUtodd asked one such question I didn't know the answer to and was happy to add that bit of information to my memory bank with the answers he got... Thanks everyone, for all of the responses to my questions with suggestions, ideas and different ways of looking at problems that I would have never come up with on my own!

May 2008 be the greatest year ever for you and yours!

Wow, little ole' me got mentioned!! image Thanks!! I will say this, there are other forums, and even sections of this forum (lightside), that asking questions that the pros know will get you flamed.... Much more forgiving on the darkside. Thanks to all of you that contribute knowledge to my database. Thanks!

You are 100% right Todd. When I go on to the u.s. forum there is always bickering going on. You have to weed through the chaff. But even so it is still a pretty good forum, just not as good as the dark siders. May I also put in a vote for Roman.

Laurent, thank you for the flattering mention. I shall endeavor to be worthy of such high praise.

I have too many favorite folk here to list them all. I will say I wish my old friend the Dead King would haunt this place a little more often; he's been a tad scarce lately.

Many of our wisest sages are people of few words and don't post that often.

I do have some clearcut favorite posters on the Metal Detecting Forum but here it would be difficult to narrow the list down to a few names, at risk of leaving out some important ones.

I don't think I was trying to pick out one poster, but rather give space for everyone to thank posters who made an impression on them, in one way or another.

There are many lurkers out there that I would love to hear from in this thread, folks we never hear from but who enjoy what the forum has to offer. C'mon and contribute at least a word or two.

Also a welcome back to some friends not-heard-from-lately like Askari.

OK, I've got one, from yesterday.

You might've read my thread about how I sort of "accidentally" won a fairly rare Roman coin, and was elated to win it, but also a bit nervous, 'cause it was a $330-ish coin and I had suddenly overextended myself, putting myself into a minor cashflow crunch.

I mentioned I was going to sell some stuff off quickly to scrape up the funds. Before I could get anything out for sale, Roman (TwoKopeiki) shot me a PM and offered to loan me the money for a few weeks. Just like that- out of the blue.

I can't think of EVER volunteering to loan somebody outside of the family 300+ dollars, just like that, even folks who I trust. (Mostly because I seldom have that much spare dough to loan, of course).

So Roman bailed me out of my dilemma, zapping me $350 via PayPal so I'd have it fast (and have enough left over after fees to pay the seller of the Roman coin).

Naturally, I offered him ten percent interest, which he refused. So I'll just have to send him a nice coin.

I'm still gonna put some stuff up for sale (after all, I have to pay Roman off this month), but the sense of "emergency" is gone, now, which is nice.

It was also an incentive for me to get busy scanning and attributing some of this stuff I've been meaning to sell, anyway.

So, there you go- if that ain't a perfect example of a true friend, I don't know what is.

I'm glad I could help-out, Rob. It was just good timing - both of my Heritage lots went way over my max. bid, which freed-up some funds that I had set aside for my numismatic pursuits.

Thanks. You were a lifesaver. I'd've managed to pull it off without any help, but you saved me some serious scrambling.

Of course I am still preparing some stuff to sell, so I can pay you off sooner, rather than later!
