1909 Lincoln VDB DDO, FS-1102 (FS-012.1)

Ok, I'm looking for a little information on this coin. FS-1102 was formerly known as FS-012.1. I have one in for grading right now that should come back 64RD or possibly 64RB. It's one I have had in my raw collection for quite some time and now it is time to put it in my PCGS set.

There is a PCGS 64RD listed in an eBay storefront for $1,475 HERE

There is another PCGS 64RD that is about to end on Ebay that has a starting price of $1,125 HERE that has not met reserve twice in the past with bids only reaching $760 HERE and $810 HERE

So now the questions. When I look this up in the pop report, it shows a 64RD 1102 as a pop 67/10 coin, which is incredible to me since PCGS just started holdering this coin. Did a variety hoarder make a huge submission of this variety or is it an error in the pop report?

Second, I have regarded this coin as more plentiful than the other 1909 VDB DDO, but how much more plentiful is it??? What would a reasonable price level for this variety be as a 64RD?

Value depends on if you’re buying or selling! First, PCGS has NOT just started designating this coin. I had mine holdered over 2 years ago. That is when the average price to buy the coin in MS 64 Red (Anacs holdered) was running around $100. You are correct, lately, all forms of sale including Teletrade, which has had several selling over $400, and a few you- have- to- be- kidding- me auctions like at Heritage and ebay auctions, where I THINK bidders were misinformed and thought they were buying a type 1 DDO. But anyway, the going price seems to be that a 64 RED should sell for easily $600 on the Bay, and even $700. But whoever is trying to sell that one coin over the past several weeks is looking at the old sales of plus $1200. IMHO, the coin is nowhere near worth $1200 because it is far more common that the type one DDO. I have a 64 Red I would gladly take $500 if offered and second one at PCGS that is for sale when it returns also.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize they have been holdering these for a couple of years. It would stink to have bought an FS-012.1 thinking it was an FS-012. That has to be what someone was thinking if they paid over $1k for an MS64red.

    PM returned

dbemike, that is one scary price on that coin! Pictures stink ( I REALLY don't like the liquid pixels thingy either) but the coin looks better than a 64 if you could do something about that spot on the reverse between the A and M of "AMERICA."

    Doug,

64RD worth no more than $200-250 or so. there was a huge hoard that came from that 11 roll '09-VDB lot last year ('06).

Sold this one for about $510 on eBay just about a year or so ago:

The sellers you cite are thieves seeking to capitalize on the unknowing by confusing it with the Die#1 (with respect to the FS-012).

Roger, thanks for the info. That's exactly what I was smelling.

The one on Teletrade sold for $500+juice.

I sent you a PM or two, do you respond to PM's?
