Question for HOF auto collectors...

Do you count TTM autos toward your collection, or do you only consider those w/ a COA as part of your collection?
Atlanta Braves, Charlotte Hornets, Shawn Kemp, Dale Murphy, and Bobby Engram.

The vast majority of HOF autographs that are in the marketplace are TTM, and to answer your question, yes, I count them...There was a time in the not too distant past when virtually all baseball HOFers were good TTM signers.

  • Sorry for the stupid question, but what does TTM stand for?

I'm guessing, its autographs that don't come from UD, Fleer, Topps or other major companies? If so, I don't count them, I only choose autos from the major companies with COA on the back. If there is a player that dosen't have a certified by a major company auto, then I could count an auto card of that player, or if that person has a cut auto, but its numbered very low, and its almost inpossible to get, then I use autos that are not certified by a major company.

Here is a great example of what i'm talking about, this card was signed in person, and this HOF member only have one cut auto which is numbered to 2, and one already sold, so this card will do for me! image

My Chick Hearn Autograph for my collection, which I paid a little over $50 for

The Chick Hearn Cut auto numbered to 2 card that I was talking about, which sold on ebay for a little over $1,100

I personaly prefer the one I have, but to bad its numbered to 2, that would definetly be very cool! image

TTM stands for "through the mail"; meaning that it was obtained by sending a request to the player through the mail, and the player returning it the same way.

    Thanks Steve!

I'm bad with that stuff, they should have a list of all those abbreviaions or something image

  • As long as you're confident it's not an autopen or ghost signer, than of course I would include it towards the collection (I have some in my own collection!).

Wow, I didn't realize there was a market for Chick Hearn autos. I used to have Lakers season tickets and my seats were 10 feet from where Chick and Stu (the Lakers tv guys) sat while they did commentary. On the way up to my seats, I would stop and get them to autograph my ticket stubs, index cards, programs, etc. literally every game for 3 seasons. It got to the point where they knew mine and my little sister's name. Anyway, if any of you guys need any Chick Hearn (or Stu Lantz for that matter) sigs let me know and I'll see if I can dig them up, I should have about 30 - 40 somewhere in my closet.

very true jerry- back in 80s 99% would sign for free, no internet or ebay, now every wants paid to their favorite charity, their pocket for 75% of em id say,i always send the old negro leaguers $,i have had phone calls from alot of them talking about the way way things were, more people were going to see them than reg teams, so they finally got to play in majors, alot of them were better than the mlb guys but never got a shot or there would definately be some diff records all together in baseball

    Hi Brian,

I would be interested as well. How much are you asking for one?

  • Personally, I'd trust TTM far more than most COA's I see on eBay...

Brian count me as interested if you wrangle up some free autos. What do you collect...I would like to trade you something for your time.

    Thanks,

  • A few TTM auto signers were agreeable to answering questions in the early 80's, Waite Hoyt wrote a one page reply and Stan Coveleskie talked about Ray Chapman and the 1920 Indians..

A few HOFers were also agreeable to being interviewed for my baseball book from 2006, including Bobby Doerr, Bob Feller and Brooks!

Hey guys, thanks for all the interest in the Chick Hearn signed ticket stubs. I found 4 of them (two with Bill Walton on them as well) while at my parents house, but not the stash I know I have somewhere over there. Until I do, I'm going to hold on to these. PM me if you still have interest in one, that way, I know where to find you when the rest turn up.
