ID help please - GB coin & unknown coin

Hello all,

Here is the Great Britain coin:

I believe this coin is silver, about 13mm in size - but I can't find it in any of my books.
On the obverse, the names 'Lauer' and 'Nurnberg' are present. I've looked for those
on the web - I guess a guy named Lauer used to make coins in Nuremburg, Germany.

On the reverse, the date looks to be 1827 or 1837. It's a 2 shilling coin, but I've never
seen one like this before. Maybe a pattern or test strike?

I think this is play money, but it's quite ornate and looks to be cu-ni.
The obverse and reverse of this coin are identical.
(Sorry about the crappy pic)

Thanks,
Big Dave

  • The most famous German manufacturer of tokens, replicas and miniatures was L. Christian Lauer in Nürnberg during the first half of the 1900's.

I believe that the first piece is categorized as spielgeld (sp.). I've had various small copies of German and British coins before with the Lauer name on them.

What Blackhawk just said. Speilgeld. (And you had it spelled correctly, Bill, though I couldn't tell you much more about spielgeld besides the spelling).
