YEAH! The 1976 Topps set finally made it! And just think, I was debating weather I should switch to the 76-77 Topps Basketball set because I seemed like a more obtainable goal, plus there is a Kareem PSA 9 out there now at a good price. Anyone know what the other one has gone for or who has it? I think I would enjoy putting the money to something I could finish like Basketball instead of 660 cards! But who knows where I'll go now.

And I don't think I will be bidding on it anymore. Too much $$$$$$$$$ for me.

I have officially started a new set. Better change my profile, AGAIN!!!
I think many of the high-grade SGC cards from the issue will be crossed over to PSA slabs.
Many collectors are motivated to slab '70s cards only upon seeing that slabbing at the grade they expect brings a substantial enough premium to be worthwhile. Major eBay sales from the set have only been happening in the last couple months.
As for the year of grading, I didn't realize it started that long ago. I just looked back at the Sept. 2001 SMR and the set wasn't listed then (and I hadn't yet seen any PSA cards from the set on eBay at that time), so I guessed that it had only been graded for 5 months. In any case, until the set made it into SMR, expect that a lot of collectors didn't realize PSA would grade it.

Nick you aren't the only person who thought that way. I received a ton of emails from collectors when I first listed my extra 1976-77 Topps Basketball PSA graded cards on eBay. They thought that PSA just started grading these cards. Even today the "pop" numbers are very low for a small set (144 cards).

I agree with this statement as well. However, submitter beware. I'm not sure if PRO, SGC, USA, BVG, PGS, and any other grading services have been grading as hard as PSA on these cards. I saw a E. Monroe card graded 8.5 that looked like my PSA 7. So I'm not sure if the crossover will be smooth. These cards have so many print problems it is a wonder there are any PSA 9's.

Anyway, what's the SMR on that Kareem? I was thinking if I could get it I would start with the Basketball instead of Baseball. I also agree on the SGC and PRO...fluff graders not grading any of the Tall Boys nearly as hard as PSA. I have won 2 SGC auctions and thought to cross them over but I dont think they would even come close to a even cross.

Wej> The 1976-77 Topps Basketball set will be less expensive (144 cards) compared to the 1976 Topps Baseball (660 cards).
BTW, who were the two SGC cards of?
Carlos
Any guesses on the reserve, what's the SMR price?
Walton & Monroe are the two SGC cards @ 8's. I believe you have both of them already.
