  • I vaguely remember it as a mildly amusing thinly plotted action-adventure.

    << <i>Plot Outline:

Benjamin Franklin Gates descends from a family of treasure-seekers who've all hunted for the same thing: a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Ben's close to discovering its whereabouts, as is his competition, but the FBI is also hip to the hunt. Written by IMDb Editors

Ben Gates comes from a family of treasure hunters. Now his grandfather believes that the forefathers' buried a treasure somewhere in the country and have placed clues everywhere but unfortunately the clues are highly cryptic and scaterred all over the place. Now Ben thinks he has found it but it only leads him to another clue which is on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now one of his associates Ian wants to steal it so that they could get the clue but Ben refuses to do it so he tries to kill Ben. But Ben evades him and tries to warn the authorities about Ian's plans but they don't believe him. So Ben takes it upon himself to steal it in order to protect it. And he does but Abigail Chase the curator of the National Archives, where it is kept, discovers what he has done and tries to stop him but gets caught in the crossfire between Ben and Ian, so Ben takes her with him. While she doesdn't believe him, he is determined to prove he is right about the treasure. But it won't be easy cause Ian's always a step behind him and he is being hunted by the FBI.

Since childhood, Benjamin Franklin Gates has known that he is decended from a long line of people whose job is to guard a treasure hidden by the Founding Fathers, who hid clues to its whereabouts in the country's currency and on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Now, he has learned of a plot to steal the Declaration, and has only one option: steal it himself. Even if he pulls off this monumental task, keeping the treasure safe is still going to be incredibly hard, especially since the FBI has also gotten wind of the scheme.

I was assuming you were talking about the sequel, no?

  • I guess this is the second one: National Treasure: Book of Secrets

    << <i>Plot Outline:

While Ben is presenting new information about John Wilkes Booth and the 18 pages missing from Booth's diary, one man stands up and presents a missing page of John Wilkes Booth's diary. Thomas Gates, Ben's great-grandfather, is mentioned in the page. It shows that Ben's great-grandfather could have been a person involved with Abraham Lincoln's murder. When doing more research, the conspiracy takes Ben, Abigail, and Riley to Buckingham Palace(which they break into). It takes them to a book in the White House(which they break into also)and they even steal a page from the book. But in order to see more from the book, their choice is either get elected president or kidnap the President of the United States. Which do they choose? It's obvious. The conspiracy then crosses to Mount Rushmore and they even mention the JFK conspiracy. Could Ben clear his family's name? Or will his family be known as the descendant of Abraham Licoln's murderer? >>

Saw both, loved both - call me cheesy, but they're made by Disney, so you can bring anyone to see it.

I thought the first one was reasonably entertaining but pretty dumb, I'm expecting about the same from the second installment but will likely wind up seeing it once it hits cable.

May I suggest Sweeney Todd? Outstanding!

Yeah, they're both pretty good if you can get past the obvious security breaches and utterly amazing ability of Nicholas Cage to decipher clues in seconds (i.e. the Resolute desks) that would probably take experts months to decode. Both movies keep you interested though....definitely fun popcorn flicks.
Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.
  • Saw both.....as you say breaking into Buckingham Palace and the White House was a little far fetched along with some of the special effects....I went and saw the first one twice.....I wont with this one I'll wait for HBO..............image

I liked the first one, especially because I live in Phila.

The second one got poor reviews, so may wait for it to hit cable - haven't decided yet.
