Chuck Furjanic...

Seems to have quite a following in the raw market. WOndering if anyone has ever bought from Furjanic and has had the coin grade at PCGS (at the level Furjanic determined).

His raw pieces look pretty nice from the pics.

  • I have bought a number of his pieces and have always been pleased, however I have never sent any in for grading.

    Bad link?
Who is General Failure, and why is he reading my hard drive?
  • Could somebody pass me the variables to the page I am accessing? Thanks.

Geez, it was the search results page for furjanic. Lots of threads.

  • thanks fellas.
  • From the looks of it, his coins would not grade at the level he has determined at PCGS.
  • I've bought just over 40 coins from Chuck, not unhappy with the price or grade of any. We've communicated a great deal and have exchanged emails with him and his wife. Not submitted any for grading though, but was two days away from submitting a 'lot' to ANACS...until I learned they would be leaving Austin.

  • I've bought several Morgans from him and his coins miss PCGS grades by several points. Usually good prices on his auctions thou.

I have purchased one Barber dime. Was listed as an XF (still don't understand his XF rating) and PCGS gave it a 62.

This old thread has been a help. I purchased a coin from chuck_furjanic_inc. on eBay recently: 1866 "XF" Shield Nickel. The coin inhand is a nice trouble-free 1866 but it is probably only VF-20. I felt the coin appeard overgraded in the auction photo and so I bid accordingly. With that knowledge I am comfortable placing bids on his raw coins that appear "original" to me.

I bought a coin from him a few years ago and felt it too was overgraded. The coin in hand didn't look nearly as good as the picture.

I don't know, perhaps I was unlucky, but everyone of the 6 coins I looked at in his ebay store looked like they'd been rubbed with baking powder.

Too many hairlines for my taste

I can appreciate that Tom. So far I have stuck with Chuck's Nickels. I imagine you could get hairlines on Proof or Unc. specimens, but unless you use a brillow pad or steel wool, it's not easy to mark up Nickel.

  • In my earlier days I made the mistake of buying quite a few coins from him thinking the grades would at least come back comparable from PCGS ... I think the best I did was have one come back just 2 points lower than the "CF grade." A number of his "gems" marked 65 on his holder came back as 58s.

Form what I have seen of his pictures, he is very consistent with his grading. He is consistently a few points below what he puts on the holder. Once again, judge the coin, not the holder. Or the sticker...
There is no "AT" or "NT". We only have "market acceptable" or "not market acceptable.
  • When I upgraded my Buffalo set I got quite a few from him and while they may not grade at exactly what he said, I have eyes and got them at reasonable prices, certainly prices more in line with what they really were. I was pleased and have no reason not to do business with him again.

I haven't bought from him in over a year because his stuff is getting too expensive, but I bought about 50 coins from him over an 8 month period about 3 years ago. I always bid 1-2 grades lower than he advertised. interestingly enough, many of you have confirmed his grades via photos I've posted on this forum. However, most all coins needed to have PVC cleaned.

He is good to deal with. I have exchanged many emails with him and he is fair and honest. All of my emails were because I overpaid and he contacted me to return money, or discount the next coin purchase. Once I placed a "low ball" bid because no one was bidding and I won the dang coin. He offered to send my money back if I didn't like it, but I ended up liking the coin and kept it...a very nice original Half Cent.

He's been on my list to check out. (I appreciate what amounts to a 'heads up" on grading.)

Ihave never bought from him, but when I used to email him about a coin (Barber half) , he always responded promptly. The reply was usually, "Yes, cleaned." Thus, why I have never bought from him.
Do your best to avoid circular arguments, as it will help you reason better, because better reasoning is often a result of avoiding circular arguments.

Yes, he overgrades by a point or two. What dealer doesn't? I've received nice coins from him and some that were cleaned that I returned. He is always cooperative on returns and I consider a good dealer to purchase coins from.
