Best Mantle PSA 7 or 8 for $200 or less??

Thoughts or opinions since I have $200 in eBay gift certficates burnin' to be used. I really like '61 and '63 but I'm aware I could only get a 5 or less on those years in Mantle's regular card.

I like the 1962T All Star in that range.

I'd try for the 69. It is his last card, has all his stats on the back and is a nice looking card.

I'd look for a decently centered one and not just get the first one that pops up. for 2 bills I do not think you can get any mantle card, (Player card) above the grade of 5. maybe a 6?

So, look for a true ex card. One with honest wear and no problems.

    Good Luck!
Edited to add: Yikes!! I just saw that a 1969 Mantle in 5 is like 4 bills so nevermind. for 2 bills I think you are going to have to get an allstar type card like mentioned above.

Maybe take your 2 bills in certs and add 2 more and get a player card?

    Sorry for the wishfull thinking!!

    Good for you.

I did a quick search on eBay and turned up a lot of Leader, All Star and highlight cards, but a fairly nice looking, but OC 1968 in a PSA7 all at or under $200. Going to PSA8 you go past the $200 mark in an instant.

I have been buying quite a few Mantle's in the PSA 5-6 range, so here is what I think you can get:

    1969 PSA 6 - $150 range for a nice one

    1968 PSA 6 - $140-$150 range

    1967 PSA 6 - $140-$150 rnage

    1966 PSA 6 - $150 range

    1965 - Cannot get a decent 5 or 6 for $200

    1964 PSA 6 - $160-$170 A great value in my opinion.

    1963 PSA 5 - I just bought a nice centered 5 for about $160

    1962 PSA 5 - Again, I just bought a nice centered 5 for about $155

    1961 PSA 5 - $150-$160

    1960 - May get a decent 5 for around $200. Though, I will admit I haven't been looking hard.

I know you asked for a 7 or 8, but you will have to settle for combo cards or All Stars for that price. I would think you can land a nice 1962 Mays/Mantle in a PSA 7 for well under $200.00. That to me would be the best value at a 7.

Try his '64 Topps Giants or '58 All-Star.

TJMAC, where did you find the '63 PSA 5 for $160, that sounds cheap to me. My preference on his 60s solo cards(not AS or ldrs) are as follows. '61, '63, '62 and '64. Thanks for all the advice.

    58 all star.

Sorry, I just don't like the '58 All-Star at all. If I go for an all-star, it'll have to be the 62 or 61.

This one isn't mine, but it went for only $138.50, which is a steal!!!

Here is the link to mine:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180189348007. I paid about $132.00 for it since I had a $25.00 coupon if I used Paypal on an item over $100.00.

You'll never go wrong picking up a Mantle...."blue chip" as they say. You seem to already have your mind made up as to what ones you'd like to get, so I won't chime in with my opinions other than to say don't sleep on the All-Star cards. You mentioned the '61 & '62 which are both very attractive cards. However as I'm sure you've noticed there is a very big price jump between the two (which is why I have the '62 & not the '61 lol) I also have the '60 A.S. card, which I personally love although it is a very daring design with the large "60" in the background so I can see if not everyone finds it aesthetically pleasing.

Something else you may want to consider are some of the special feature cards such as:

    - the '68 Mantle/Mays/Killebrew card
    - the '59 Baseball Thrills card of Mantle hitting 42 HRs
    - the '61 or '65 World Series cards
    - the '62 "The Switch Hitter Connects" card
    - the '64 A.L. Bombers card (which is the only Topps card issued that features Mantle & Maris in the same photo)

...and there are several others as well.

Keep us posted as to what one you choose and good luck!!

ahh that's right! You can get the 1965 mantle WS card for 150.00 in PSA 8

    Forgot about that one.

I'd still prefer his last card though if it was my only Mantle.
