Long term Ebay sales and costs

I have been watching a dollar on the Bay for over 6 months now. Each time the seller sets the BIN for 30 days and, for the same amount of money, just leaves it there. I have offered what I thought was a fair amount for this coin and it was declined so I just decided to see when/if it sells.

But, as I said it has not sold for over 6 months. My question is how long can this seller put this coin out there an still make money? Aren't the ebay fees sucking him dry?

  • When you have a eBay store, it costs just 10¢ to list an item in store format for 30 days. eBay makes thier profit when a store item sells by charging a much higher FVF than on the auction style format.

I too have been watching and offering on some other items on Ebay that, like your dollar, have been in their Ebay stores for over 6 months.

I think they don't care what the true value of the item is. They are stubborn and hope they will get their 'inflated' price tag. Good luck to them.

  • He should have raised the price after two listing cycles. I have done that and more often than not, it sells within a day. Its a strange phenomena but I think there are fence sitters that like the coin and are waiting for it to come down in price. When the see the price rise, they jump on it.

In fact, since I already have a store, I list coins in my collection that I really don't want to part with at moon money. If one sells I make a nice profit and start hunting to replace the coin. Otherwise it's just 10 cents.

What's interesting is that it seems to anger a lot of people to have an item listed over guide value. Of course, my response is always, "well if you can find one for that buy it!"

Re: OP, is the seller Ernie? He's had an 1801 up in a PCI red holder for well over a year.

Re: later post recommending boosting of the price, I have seen that approach succeed time and time again. Have yet to try that myself. It's kind of like my golf swing - I know much of what I do that is wrong but I seem to keep doing it anyway!

Nope, it is not Ernie; but I have seen this on his stuff as well. It is for Chobies Coins...not sure if anyone has seen that seller or not.

And I too have seen coins sell after the price was raised...I think that *they* think, wow, I really missed on a bargain "I had better pick this up now before it goes any higher"

But in the end I dont need this one, I just thought I might like to own it for a while. Oh well, the search goes on.. image
