Just noticed that Kitco is listing American Silver Eagles and Canadian Silver Maple coins as currently out of stock. I wonder why other than the obvious answers that they are out of stock or do not have any. This is the first time I recall seeing this.

<< <i>2008's are not yet available and they don't want to be holding '07's in January. >>
That may not be the reason. They are selling these as bullion and offer mixed dates.

<< <i>The supply of silver bullion has dried up. The only big reliable source right now is the mint, and all of the dealers are waiting for the 2008's so they can start selling silver again. >>
If that is the reason one would think the price would go up. Looks like the 2008 are pre release selling at $20.59 with free shipping on eBay.

This would be more likely to just drive up the premium on bars.
Presumably there's still ample amounts of 10,000 oz bars for industry and coin for speculators.
I'd have to assume that Kitco just erred while transitioning to a new form to sell.

Nice to see they are in stock again.
<< <i>Eleven days later and Kitco is still out of stock on both. They are over $1.00 per coin ahead on any they did not sell. >>
Twenty three days later and still out of stock on both the American Silver Eagle and the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf ???

Another reason that silver Eagles are a terrible investment and an even worse way to purchase silver bullion. I'm sure I'll pick up several business strike '08s later this year for spot price, it seems to be a pattern.
I'll wait till December to buy my single proof in the Mint package to keep my set going and I'll find it on the Bay at that time for less than issue price.
Been doing it like that for several years now.
If you've just gotta be among the first to have them, you're going to pay for that priviledge.
That's a concept that escapes me. It's not like they have a low mintage and you may be left without one.

I agree - got burned out on the boring silver eagles couple years ago. Not worth the premium.

They really are legal tender. I'll bet they're hard on a pocket, though.
