Autos REAL or FAKE

Thinking of sending both items in to PSA/DNA, I first want to see what you guys think. Had the Maris in my collection for years now and the Griffey I got at a show (maybe...or it was a gift).

  • I don't really like either of them.. The griffey looks too legible and the Maris just does not look right to me can't put my finger on it though.

  • The "R" in Roger is all wrong
he signs his name with an R that goes up then to the right down back across the up, curls up right and then to the right and down

This "R" in Roger goes right, up, left, then down making an "h"

aww..shucks, here is an authenticated auto to compare with

Griffey's all look good. i've got a few IP autos of him from 1990 or 91 and the autos are very similar, albeit quite different from his current auto, which is much nicer IMO.

The M in Maris troubles me a bit, but it's one of the better looking ones out there if it is no-good.

Yeah to me they both look good, especially the Maris.

I agree that they all look good. I especially like the Maris. There may be a few differences in the "R" between the PSA slabbed index card and the picture, but the pen strokes look identical.

    Good luck!!

Agreed, I think the Maris in paticuliar is fine.
  • If these were offered to me I would pass on the Maris and the Griffey photo
Note the lifting of the pen between the M and A

The Griffey's are both good, to me...you can't really compare both of the signatures to base one off of the other for authenticity. The picture appears to be an in-person signature mid-1990s likely. Junior was an awesome in-person signer from the start of his career to about 1994, then from what I hear lately he been a little less fan-friendly and tougher to get but not impossible.

The Griffey ball is an awesome signature, probably a Score Board or Upper Deck sign for money deal in the early 1990s.

The Maris signature is a little problematic...given the value of his autograph these days it might be worth posting on eBay at a high price and getting a Quick opinion. My gut feeling is slightly positive, but because it's in Sharpie and the whole Operation Bullpen/Greg Marino thing put so many fakes in the market, it gives me cause to pause. One interesting thing to note is that the PSA example posted in here shows characteristics of someone who writes left handed, yet Maris signed with his right hand to the best of my knowledge.
