Playing with new camera/guess the grade--Take two

Still adapting to the new camera, and I'm curious about any input on photography you have. These are natural light, because I haven't had the same success with my old lighting set up. On the way home today I got thinking about circular fluorescent light bulbs...

This eagle is pretty interesting:

I'll keep posting progress on my photography.

Nice photos, but I think both coins have altered surfaces.
  • good photos, the first reverse eagle is awsome. sharp strike. maybe alter surfaces?maybe not?
  • Sorry I peeked at your EXIF. Nice shots. You might want to take a crack at shooting them in manual and setting your aperture about mid way. The published specs for the SD 1000 are f/2.8-4.9

Try manual with about f4 or so.

I love the Canon's for macro. Did you do these handheld or use a tripod?

Don't you just love that info they store in the photos? I'll try changing some of the settings around. Photos were handheld, but with an elbow resting on a stable surface.

Here's my second attempt. I had three table lamps placed roughly in a triangle, but still had trouble eliminating a shadow from myself.

/// Do you think the white balance problem is coming from the incandescent bulbs? Or perhaps because it's a rather old copy of Coin World? ///
  • The pics are nice and sharp but the white balance looks off to me. Too orange. Play around with the white balance. The SD1000 should have multiple white balance settings.
