Both of these submissions are part of the reason why as a lowly collector I have only submitted a couple coins for grading in my life.....

No I buy slabbed coins and rarely buy a raw coin unless it is something I see that really catches my eye. My raw coins consist of circ silver for bullion value. I would never touch a raw coin from the bay is more of what I was getting at. Maybe someday I will get my skills better to grade but for now I stick to slabs as I continue to learn.

  • I agree with the comment about the quality issues of coins sold on Ebay. If you are buying RAW coins, buyer beware.

I used to buy some raw coins from some "respected" dealers only to have then BB'd by PCGS and ANACS.

I subsequently concluded/learned that if these coins were so good, why wouldn't the dealer get them slabbed themselves and sell for a much higher price?

Another lesson learned - I don't buy raw coins from Ebay sellers.
