Polished coins

There is a 1926-D Saint in the Heritage sale that is described as "thoroughly polished and unnaturally bright". Can a gold or silver coin that's been harshly polished ever return to a relatively normal appearance? Has anyone bought a rare coin that's been polished and what is the market for these kind of coins?

a few years of pocket wear might do the trick, but it could be a long long process.

i have a rare coin that has been "wiped" but it would be truly stretching it to call it polished. So to answer
your question no. We often see pics of bust coins here on the forums that have been cleaned but once
again polishing it a harsher step above that!
the coin would have to be truly rare, as in less then 50 known to fetch serious money. most heavily polished
coins go for a small percentage of their true unpolished cousins' price.
if a xf45 coins goes for 1000, a polished net graded vf35 may only fetch 250. but this example is pulled out
my butt as a hypothetical example. i also collect gold which holds more value cleaned then does silver.
so once again it all depends on the coin.
2)has anyone bought-i have and what is the market-terrible on resale
3)the market for these-beginners learn through this "bargin hunting" so i think the market will always be there
