Does ANA still offer grading/authentification service to members?

I was told a while back that by joining the ANA, I would be able to get 'problem' coins into slabs with net grades, at no charge. Is this still the case? I did join very recently, but I did not receive any info about submitting coins, other than the fact that NGC is the official grading service of the ANA. If that's the case, what happened to ANACS - I thought that they were ANA's grading division?

Can somebody explain the current status to me?

Thanks,
Chuck

ANACS stands for, well... it's ANACS. It is not initials. Not ANA anything. The ANA sold it about 15 years ago.

  • So what do I get for my nice, new membership in the ANA, besides another magazine to add to the pile?
I get to say "member, ANA, since 2007"!
Maybe free admission the the library & museum in Colorado? I guess I need to look over my membership package a little more closely, or give them a holler...but it doesn't appear that there is much to it.........image

Well the magazine is pretty good IMO and you get access to the ANA's library. Plus your also supporting the hobby (recent politics at the ANA aside) and you do get the ability to submit coins across the street...and then submit them here and compare the grades image. Probably a few other benefits I haven't thought of....if any come to mind I will edit my post...

  • I agree that the magazine is very nice, but do I now have to enroll separately with NGC to submit coins to them (or NCS) , or will ANA do that for me? I was a dues paying member of NGC for a few years, but was not especially impressed with the abilities of NCS, or the grading of NGC. ( I wasted 4 free NCS submission forms on coins that they said could not be 'conserved' - it seems to me that the spectrum of conservable coins is very small! )
I suppose the best thing to do would be to make a phone call and get the low-down from the ANA.

    Happy Holidays!
