Just got Geoff Petrie in the mail. Only one problem, he switched out my card for a card with a bend in it which has his name mispelled on the front. He also threw in another low quality 1970s Topps card as well unsigned as his way of making up for taking my nicer card. Oh well....
Got a couple of auto's back from Ricky Jordan. Very popular Rookie card during the 1989 season and a decent first baseman for the Phils for a few seasons.
I also got back Ex-NBA big man Mark Eaton today... signed an index card and hoops card. Also included a signed letter trying to sell me his 10 step self help program for 39.95, which is half the regular price!
<< <i>Anybody remember the old child abuse public service announcement Mark Eaton did in the 80s? "You think I look scary? Imagine how your kids must feel."
This reminds me of when I was a kid and got Drazen Petrovic's auto through the mail. One of the cards I wish I didn't sell. >>
I do remember that annoucement. Couldn't find it on Youtube, but I did find this nice video of Eaton getting posterized...
Just got this neat reply back from Mike Sandlock. Former major leagurer in the 1940s and 50s and 92 years old! He even took the time to write a nice letter about his playing days. It's a lot of fun to write to these old timers.
<< <i>dr. J - please please do not pass those montana autographs off as real. He does NOT SIGN TTM. >>
Are you a personal friend of the family? Please post a link to an article/write-up which definitively states he does not sign TTM.
Earlier in this thread we compared some TTM examples to UD Authenticated and really there was little difference between some of the examples. The autographs may be fake, but I have seen nothing conclusive.
Got this JJ Reddick preprint back in the mail after the season is over. I guess he is too busy to sign being a permanent bench warmer and in the off-season.
Also got this Patrick Ewing back in the mail today. It is signed in Blue Sharpie, but may be an Autopen. He returned my SASE and card as well which was nice.

J:
That is not a legitimate Joe Montana signature. It is ghost signed. Sadly, his ghost signed has gotten pretty good a mimmicking his signature just as Hank Aaron's secretary has at signing his (aside from the "H," connecting the "Aa" and not being as shaking as arthritic Hank). At least the ghost signer for Terry Bradshaw (rumored to be his brother) still remains a far cry from Terry's signature.

It may very well be ghost signed, but the bottom line is no one (including yourself) has posted anything even reasonably conclusive proving it is signed by a family member. Since it looks so so close (identical) to many of the UDA autos, I wonder if those were ghost signed as well.
Here's my Montana PSA/DNA rookie for comparison and Dr. J's.
Looks pretty good.
I've also got one currently out to Joe with a TTM attempt. In my letter to him I specifically asked to not have it signed by a sister, father, etc., like rumored on the internet, but to have it authentically signed by Joe. I mentioned some moments from Notre Dame (my alma matter as well) that hopefully he could relate to (if he ever even sees it). My request has been out to him almost a month and a half now, and I know that several people that sent theirs after mine have already had theirs returned, so that might mean that either I made whomever mad by my statement and its not coming back ever, or could also mean that they are holding mine until Joe himself signs it, instead of the customary rumored sister/dad graph, or may not mean either of those and could be something else. If I do get it back, I'll be sure and post it and will also send it in to PSA/DNA when I send my whole batch of signed rookies if it looks close.

Aside from the fact that Joe stated in an article several years ago that he only signs in-person autographs (on the street and in public for free and at shows for a fee), there's nothing I, or anyone else, can produce, print or link to that would provide you with the conclusive proof that you are expecting.
There are plenty of the PSA/DNA slabbed Montanas that are of the product of the ghost signer. Just because it is in a slab doesn't mean that it's correct. Recently, PSA/DNA has been rejecting this style signature.
Here are some exemplars of his authentic signature (NOTE: The Joe is more complete than any of the typical signatures attributed to the ghost signer. Authentic sigs typically demonstrate a "Jr" or "Js" look as opposed to the ghost's "J" version):
<< <i>I am just getting back into TTM autographs after a 15 year lay-off. Right now I am focusing on Philadelphia Athletes and Basketball players/coaches, but as the title of the thread suggests, I am prone to randomness, so there should be some interesting posts as this thread progresses and requests are received.....
Starting things off is the great John Wooden on a custom print out:
>>
Coach Wooden greatest Basketball coach of all time
The Ewing looks like a pre-print on the picture. Ewing is one of the toughest autographs to get in any sport. Absolutely refused everyone here in SF area for many years.
<< <i>The Ewing looks like a pre-print on the picture. Ewing is one of the toughest autographs to get in any sport. Absolutely refused everyone here in SF area for many years. >>
Definitely not a pre-print as you can clearly make out the applied ink and the (believe it or not) the back has the photo labeled as unsigned. It may very well be a ghost signer or auto pen though.
I haven't sent out too many TTM requests lately (I think none in the past 2 months) but I finally got one of my oldies back today. Jon Koncak, Hawks forward. Growing up and playing basketball we used to call those guys who were not that good at the game "Jon Koncak" as a diss. Good Times.
<< <i>what is montana's address? are you using the address in moraga or lafayette? he no longer lives in calistoga. thanks. >>
I think my last request was Calistoga, but I honestly do not remember. Looking at SportsCollectors.net is appears recent requests to Calistoga have come back Return to Sender.
Thanks. It has been a lot of fun getting back into the TTM side of things. I have not put any new requests out for awhile, so I may fire a handful out this weekend.
<< <i>Just got an auto back from NBA coaching legend Larry Brown, the current coach of the Bobcats....
>>
Larry Brown Rocks!
Here is mine for comparison...
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
Nice card Meteorite. It bears a resemblance to mine!
I sent this card to him back when he was still a consulatant for the Sixers (months and months ago) and got it back postmarked from North Carolina. The Sixers must have forwarded on his mail or he took it with him to the new job.
Got another return back from John Wooden, this time on a licensed card so I can get it slabbed for my HOF Autograph collection. This is one of my favorite returns to date, and it is great seeing Coach Wooden has recovered from his accident earlier this year.....
Got a nice return back today from Brandon Roy, NBA ROY in 2006/07 and an all-star last season. It is good to see some of the bonafide stars still take time to return fan mail....
Nice Dr. I saw that Roy was returning some sigs. Its good to know stars still do this. I think Dirk is a good signer as well. I have a Turkey Red rookie cabinet card I would like to send Roy but am too afraid of the dammage it might take.

<< <i>I got another Joe Montant TTM in the mail today. This one is going to my mother-in-law who is a giant fan. Looks good to me...
Sorry to say but I have my doubts on any Montana TTM auto's.

As do I, but they do look awfully close to the ones Upper Deck is pushing off for big bucks.

I totally agree. I wonder where he would have ended up championship/win wise if he continued coaching a decade longer.
